I have been wanting to put together a table with different tire data. It looks like this forum does not support tables. So I'll try to use a spreadsheet or something and insert it into this first post.

So add you tire data here, and I'll try to oganize it. Cost/ tire life/opinions/ etc.

Wayne,

I have used Z6's and Pilot Road 2's.

Front Z6 will last 12K+
Rear Z6 will last 8K+

No front Pilot Road 2 (running a Z6 at present) good dry tire, can get iffy in the wet.
Rear Pilot Road 2 has 11K at present and probably a few thousand left.....it sticks like glue in wet or dry.

Getting ready to mount Tourance's on my NTX rear rim.......need to wear out the Pilot Road 2 first though.

Normally purchase tires from Southwest Moto Tire or Motorcycle Superstore, they are normally the cheapest for my furgal self, plus fast service.

The factory Scorpion Syncs lasted about 5500 mi on the back and 12,000 on the front. I put a Scorpion Trail on the back that lasted about the same, 5500. I didn't find any appreciable difference between the 2 rear tires, except the Trail, being a 190, was slightly wider.
I have a couple thousand on Continental Road Attacks now, Dual Sport front and Sport Milage rear. I like the tires so far, but cannot comment on longevity yet.

I just hit 8100 on my factory Pirelli Scorps, but the rear is GONE. I left on a 3000 mile trip and it looked good, but about halfway through, the tire started to show some severe cupping. Now that I'm home, you can barely see the steel starting to show through. Front not half bad, but I'll probably replace both at the same time.

Tourances for me!
5000 miles and loads of tread left.
Shame the cam/followers went south after that mileage....

I'm still trying to figure out how to get over 4000 miles on a rear tire.

Well, in hindsight, I should have never set out on a long trip without changing it. 5k was probably at the limit. It's definitely the most miles I've ever gotten out of a rear on any bike.

I realize that. I'm planning on putting the NTX rim on if for nothing else, a much larger selection of tires and the ability to put on a tire that can actually do some off-roading.

I have a set of Shinko 705's on mine. Works MUCH better on dirt roads than the Scorp's !!!
I switched to the NTX rim for availability of actual dual sport rubber.

My NTX turned up with the 'new' Pirelli Scorpion trail tyres (I was expecting Metzelers) so I was pleasantly surprised. Only 400 mile on the bike before the weather has cut in but so far inpressed. Very neutral turn in and plenty of grip on not so warm roads. Only worry is I seem to be about an 8th of an inch off the edge of the rear tyre and I've not been trying ? Spring time will tell if they're grippy enough or not. Failing that it's back to the tried and trusted Avon Distanzia's which I've had several sets on my last two bikes (Varadero & V-Strom), to good effect.

Here in Oz our NTXs came with either Tourance or Pirelli. I prefer Michelin Anakees, so got them put on from new. So far only have 4200km, but they are wearing well and provide good road grip, wet or dry. Dirt roads are a bit dicey, and really rough tracks or off road- forget it.

A pal of mine had the Metzeler Karoos fitted to a BETA Alp 350 trail bike, he found them to be very good on dirt roads and the muddy, rocky green lanes we have here in the UK. However they were not paticularly good on tarmac.
I had Metzeler Tourance fitted to my BMW GS1150, they were reasonably good tyres on tarmac, and ok on dirt roads, so long as there wasn't much mud, however as I thought the GS too big and heavy for what passes as dirt roads here, I decided to keep it as a road bike ( I used a Yamaha serrow for trail riding) I used Bridgestone 020 tyres which were excellent wet and dry. My Stelvio replaced the 1150GS, and is used solely as a road bike, it is now shod with Continental Road Attack tyres, over the last 3000+ miles they have proved to be very good in all weathers and are wearing well.
I also have a 1990 BMW R100GS, this is equipped with Metzeler Tourance as occassionaly I do use it on dirt tracks, but nothing too serious, they do all that is required of them, on and off tarmac, and wear rate is very good.

Karoo or Karoo T's? The Karoo T (traveler) is the dual sport version. Supposed to be better on road than the Karoo.

for the 180 versions not so much the choose when you want same type front and rear. But there comes a new Michelin Pilot road 3, in the right sizes for 180 and 150 rear. I realy like the pilot powers on the daytona, bet wet grip ever. And not doing dirt.
