I presume many of you are tool junkies and work on your own equipment either at home or professionally. I love having the right tool for the right job and take pride in keeping my tool arsenal in perfect condition. I am still using tools that are in fabulous condition that I have had since 1974. Here are some of my tips in no particular order of importance, and would love to see you add to them.
- Always return your torque wrench to zero after use
- Keep your calibration tools calibrated
- Store tools in climate controlled room
- Remove battires from electric tools when in long storage
- Wipe hand tools with a clean rag and a light coat of fresh oil
- Keep the tools clean always
- Quality name brand tools are better and cheaper than cheap tools
- People who don't borrow or lend tools keep friends longer
- Loan your help, not your tools
- Garage sales and Craigslist are awesome sources of tool bargains
- A great vise is worth its weight in gold
- A ratchet is not a hammer, a vise is not an anvil, a screwdriver is not a chisel
- Old vises are better than new ones, but Wilton still makes a great vise
- Your tool bench belongs to you and the wife should never ever touch it
- Your cat will sleep on the bench, get used to it
- A good shop radio is a tool
- Drain your compressor daily
- Good tool truck salesmen are freaking heroes
- If you invested more in the box than you did in the tools, you aren't a mechanic
- You can never have enough light
- Tool warranties do not cover stupidity
- Snap-On
- Wright
- Klein
- Lang
- Wilton
- S-K
- Mayhew
- Williams
- Mac
- Quincy
