MG manuals have torque settings for axle bolt & brake caliper bolts, but for some reason neglect the axle pinch bolts. When I removed the front wheel I found the head of one of the pinch bolts completely munged. I finally removed it and will get a replacement, but would like to know the suggested torque.

The bolts are M6 x 1.0, 40mm long.

I've tried looking up general suggestions for bolts this size but I find various numbers depending on the "class" of the fastener. I have no idea what that is for these bolts.

Fork hubs closing - 10Nm. From Sport 1200 manual. Mine were loose as was the axle. Ruined the handling and assumedly dangerous. I tighten these by hand without a torque wrench. Just don't overdo it- I know someone who used to have a ZZR1100 that they snapped the lower fork leg overtightening these.....

If you haven't already, completely remove the pinch bolts and coat the threads with anti seize material. I have seen these buggers corrode to the point they had to be drilled out.

I guess I'll go with hand tightening by "feel." I also plan to use the anti-seize and getting stainless bolt replacements.

I had a bad experience once using a Clymer's manual for reference on a BMW K bike. It listed the torque for the pinch bolts in two places in the manual and one was an error. I ended up stripping the thing out.

I have a GPZ900R and have three manuals- genuine Kawasaki, Clymer and Haynes. TWO of them are wrong on how to wire the ignition coils and ONE OF THEM IS THE GENUINE MANUAL!!!! :(

Remember that the manuals are written by tech writers, who make errors for various reasons. I was a technical writer in my last position when I was working ... Many of my "refresh" assignments were done to correct mistakes that previous writers and editors hadn't caught as well as add material for new features. I have found errors in every single manual I've reviewed... I just hope that I left fewer errors in what I worked on than I found when I opened the project! :)
