G'day Everyone,

Can someone give me the torque settings for the following;
(1200 Sport 2V)

Engine sump plug
Gear Box drain plug
Rear drive drain plug and

rocker cover bolts.

regards

Beemer

You aren't working on a beemer. Just get them snug. The type of washers used don't require much torque. The valve covers just need a t-handle and finger pressure, not much at all. They don't have to hold a puddle of oil like the BMWs do. You will see a thread elsewhere about stripped valve cover screws. Can probably guarantee the use of a torque wrench, or ham fisted mechanic. It's Italian, relax a little.

BTW, BMW oil filter are tightened hand tight, plus 90 degrees, with the Guzzi filter change you want to go hand tight plus 180 degrees.

Don't get the idea I'm anti torque spec, it is just that many items don't need them, and only "critical" items need specific torque, as rear wheels, flywheel bolts, etc.

Being a Virgo, I'm a little more anal retentive than most. :) I dutifully utilize my torque wrench. It is just too easy to bugger up aluminum parts. The following values are from the shop manual:

Engine sump plug = 20Nm or 14.75 Ft.lbs.
Gear Box drain plug = 24Nm or 17.7 Ft.lbs.
Rear drive drain plug and = I can not seem to find this one!

rocker cover bolts. = 10Nm or 7.38 Ft.lbs.

Keep the shiny side up!

Charlie

or for the cavemen among us who don't use a torque wrench.
engine sump plug = two fingers on a spanner or socket
everything else = one fingers torque :)
