Gday,I ,nor the professionals that have tried, have never been able to balance the T/B's on my 1100 Griso. I read and reread the excellent posts on this board about this subject.I purchased a VDST (BRILLIANT)made a manometer (mk4) and tried to balance my TB's to no avail(@3000rpm) the vacum drops off the L.H.S. then reappers @4-4500 rpm. If the R.H.S. butterfly is opened to compensate it goes like dog shit. Thanx to Mario at Thunderbikes W.A. one by one I swapped Injectors,Lambda probe,E.C.U. (an 8 valve one with the 03 1100 map),stepper motor and throttle bodies. Still the same drama. I opened valve clearances from 0.1 and 0.15 to 0.15 and 0.2 and this marginally eased the problem. Out with the dial indicator and a degree wheel bolted to the alternator drive pulley and reset valve clearance to 1.5mm and what do you know ?
The L.H. inlet valve is opened higher for longer at full lift than the R.H.S. The flanks align quite well with 2 degrees difference in opening and 3 degrees difference in closing. The R.H.S. exhaust is at or near full lift much longer and higher than the L.H.S.The closing flanks align quite well with a small deviation on the opening flank biased towards the R.H.S.
A golden opportunity to play with cams-NO. Due to the fact this is a budget operation and I cant afford to improve the fuelling it will be a new OEM one with new followers to suit please.

With all the specific information it does sound like a problem with the cam. Are you still in warranty? even if not I'd try a good will claim since it was obviously not ground correctly, yet still installed by the factory. Put in the new cam, set the valves to spec and let us know the results please.

I have zero experiance with the 1100, though I have seen one once. I struggled for 7 months trying to figure out what was wrong with my Stelvio (4v in Stelvio, 8v in Griso, same engine). Turned out the right hand cam gear was advanced 2 teeth. During all of my attempts to find the problem, I never had any difficulty balancing carbs. I used the standard procedure, linkage at 3000 RPM and air bleed at idle, and it worked fine. The settings are different with the cam gear repositioned, but I never had a problem balancing.
