Used Grisos for sale - info request

Good day!

I'm doing the research/due diligence on used G11s & G12s. I would generally tend towards newer bikes, but newer usually equals more expensive, and that is an issue for me right now.

I've read good things about European Motorsports in Dahlonega, GA, and they're selling what seems to be a very nice, white 2009 G12. It's still listed on CycleTrader for $8k. [http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2009-Moto-Guzzi-GRISO-8V-104391967] This almost seems too good to be true - at that price, it's only $500 above low-NADA.

Also, I have family in Prescott, AZ, where a 2007 G11 is for sale at Powersports Outlet for $7k. [http://www.epfguzzi.com/forsale/griso.html] That seems a bit high, but it's closer to CA and a more do-able fly-n-ride.

If neither need any significant wrenching any time soon, and I can swing the financing...ah, it's nice to dream.

Does anyone here know anything about either bike or the dealerships they're at? Or nice G11s or G12s for sale [cheap] in CA?

Thanks -

Bikeless

[Edit] Are Grisos 50-state smoggable? Or do I need to limit my search to just CA? Thanks again!

I think all modern Guzzis are 50 state compliant. There will be a tax hit when you register the bike in California.

Excellent info - thanks! That expands my options.

Yeah, I know...the State will get it's pound of flesh. But as almost everything is cheaper outside of California, an out-of-state fly-n-ride is, after factoring in airfare and motels, close to a "push." Plus, a great excuse for a long ride.

Also - I figured out what I was doing wrong on my searches. It seems there's a G11 for ~$5500 @ Moto Int'l in Seattle...hmmm...

Is the one at MI Black? If so its probably Steve Daley's old bike. He posts on various forums as 'Steakdaddy' or 'Porterhouse'. It's a very nice clean unit.

Pete
It is - w/29k miles.

I saw Steve in WA last summer. I noticed the aftermarket muffler was kinda small, but was surprised when Steve started it up and drove off. It had a different note, quieter and airy - pleasing note - at least to me. Not so raspy/growly as the Mistral w/o the db killer. Nice bike, it had T bone decals on the tank - not sure if those were removable. IIRC it had Todd's PC/AT fueling package. 29k miles is not bad especially for a bike owned by a guzzisti.

I see grisos pop up once or twice a year in the bayarea -but not at this price.

Thanks for the info! The planets might be aligning for this bike...we'll see over the next week or so. From the pic on the MI site, the t-bone decals are gone.

That mileage will help in Cali. You will be registering it as a used bike and the tax will be a lot lower.

The white Griso at European Motorsports (Rider's Hill) is a great deal. You can definitely trust David - As you have already heard, the guys at Rider's Hill are exceptional to deal with. They price their bikes very aggressively - even the used ones. That is why they sell so many to people from all over the U.S. They are used to shipping, so don't discount that option!
Good Luck!

I bought my 2009 White Griso from Dave at Riders Hill (European Motorsports) in Ga.. they are a great dealer, I had the bike shipped to Scottsdale from GA.. The dealer in Prescott rocks also.

For California I think you can only register bikes with over 7,000 miles on the odometer so make sure to check on the latest requirements.. I tried to sell a KTM to someone in Cali and it didn't have enough miles.

Hmmm...good to know. I wasn't aware that the 7500 mile "line" between new and used vehicles could prohibit low-mileage bikes from coming into CA. I'll check into it. Thanks!

Yeah it would suck to buy a motorcycle you can't register, plus remember 2013+ can't have aftermarket exhausts in Cali either.

....WHAT?!? Do you have a link to this?

If after-market exhausts are outlawed, only outlaws will have after-market exhausts.

How will this be enforced? It's not like we have bike smog tests/inspections here.

California treats all incoming vehicles with less than 7500 miles as "new" and charges full sales tax when you register.

In addition, the emissions sticker(s) must be in place as well as the cat (if applicable) and the evap canister.

I can see verifying the emissions stickers, but I have yet to hear of any CA DMV inspection involving evap cannisters and/or catalytic converters. Can you provide add'l info, or a link? I ask because this could impact the possibility of purchasing an out-of-state bike.

I get the cognitive dissonance of this: buying an un-modded out-of-state-yet-CARB-approved bike [like a G11 or G12] causes smog/warming/etc. in CA, but buying a heavily modded CA-registered bike doesn't. It just doesn't make sense, at least to me.

Doesn't make sense to the rest of us either, believe me.
Law makers in CA are so out of wack it ain't funny, although some moron in the GA Congress think that Guam might capsize, lol.

Anyway, buy the G12 at Dahlonega and ride it back to Cali... You should be in the ballpark by then, mileage wise.

This is simply the luck-of-the-draw at any given DMV. While, in most cases, just having the sticker appears to be sufficient, you may get an inspector that looks for the correctly stamped exhaust (OEM) and the canister - especially if they are in a bad mood and know anything about bikes.

I don't have a link, I'm afraid. I got pretty deep into this discussion on a Triumph forum. To be honest, only one guy got burnt and he probably had it coming (bad attitude at the DMV). Everyone else was fine with just the sticker. The bottom line is, if the bike has under 7500 miles, it must be untampered with and be in the same condition as new.

...roger that. If this is the stupidest thing that happens to me this year, it will be a good year. At least having this discussion w/DMV would mean I have the bike...
