Hoping you guys could help me with this. I took a ride last Tuesday night and the motor and lights cut out on me about 2 miles from the house while riding. The 15amp ignition fuse had blown. I replaced it and made a little further before it blew again. After that it would blow right after turning the key on. I can only guess there's a ground somewhere in the circuit. I went digging and all I could find was a starter cable that was a bit ratty. I replaced it and now I can turn the key on but there's no fuel pump priming or starter motor. Whats weird is when I sit on the bike and pull the side stand in the fuse blows again.

Thanks,
Toby

These bikes are know for bad relays, but not for blowing fuses. Refer to Carl's schematics and identify which circuit the fuse supplies. Disconnect all components on the circuit then reconnect one by one until the fuse blows. That will tell you where the problem is located.

There is an interlock with the side stand. With it up everything gets power. When you put it down and the bike is not in neutral as well as the clutch is not pulled in (I think the clutch is in on it) it cuts power and the motor stops.
You can use that to help you determine where the short is.
As before, you have a short. And there is no way to know where the short is without testing.
From the other thread, did you check the wires by the ignition switch? They seem to have a habit of shorting there. Probably from being turned left and right. Most electrical components are fixed in place.
They have also been known to develop shorts in the relays themselves.

Interesting, I put a new fuse in and with the sidestand down the power stayed on. The pump did not prime though and the starter button would not work. As soon as I retracted the side stand the fuse blew.

Look to see if the neutral switch behind the starter wiring is touching any of the starter wiring. Easy check but confusing to diagnose when it does this kind of thing. Fuse blows when you're in neutral and that sort of thing.

Took a look last night and noticed that the side stand sensor wire was stuck behind the exhaust pipe! The plastic had melted and was shorting out on the pipe. I snipped it off and soldered it back together. The bike is fixed!!!

So the real question is, can I toss the switch and just wire the ends together? It looks the current goes to ground when the side stand is down. When its up it goes to the fuel pump I think. It also looks like my side stand is loose.

Thank you all very much for the help.

Yes you can bypass the switch in this fashion. I've done it to all of my bikes.
