Anyone have this issue where the engine pulses over 7000 rpm? Comes with a loss of power. It goes whroom-whroom-whroom. Seems like an electronic issue (mapping?) but what do I know. I would loe other if anyone knows about this. I moved recently and I'm 175 miles from a mechanic.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim, welcome to the Forum. Are you no longer in Santa Monica then?
Yes, the engine is electronically rev-limited to just over 7k RPM. There isn't much power above 6k any way. The engine head design is the weak link if this very old design. See the 4V head swap thread by mwrenn in the V7 section, as I'm working on offering a kit... Though it won't be cheap.

Thanks guys! I wonder if the new map I have changed the limiter? I have been up in that range before and never had that issue. I first noticed it when I was accelerating onto the freeway. Good to know! Ian glad there isn't something wrong with my bike.

Todd, Yes, I moved to KS for work. Off to do a long (flat) ride tomorrow. I will look at the head swap. That sounds interesting to me.

Thanks,

Jim

Yes, same thing happened to me, very disconcerting, 2006 Breva 750 , on one of those 85Mph Interstates.
Everyone doing at least 90.
I had the throttle wide open in top gear.
Suddenly the engine sort of burps and misses for a bit.
Not having experienced it before, i was thinking ; a fuel blockage.
Not the best of things to happen, when you are in the third lane of an interstate, with 18 wheelers in the 2 innermost lanes.

I had nowhere to go, so I had to throttle back a bit, and slowly get in between trucks in lane 2, while I was thinking 50 to the dozen
Fuel was ok, only 85 on the trip, bike started firing again, off I went, but I did not fully open the throttle, for the rest of the day.
Its worrying, when it happens

Take Care Out There
