Hi all,

I'm a new forum member and new V7 III Special owner. I'm loving this bike. I'm about 700 miles into it, and has been running in beautifully. Seriously, I love this bike. Now... my issue. I just had the bike go through the initial service at my dealer, and immediately after the service I'm seeing the following:

When I key on the bike but before I start the bike, I get a check engine indication. The indicator stays lit indefinitely. And now I can only start the bike in neutral. Before, I would be able to start the bike in gear if I held the clutch in when starting.

Any ideas on what this could be? I had the dealer install new Guzzi/OEM adjustable clutch and brake levers during the service. They ended up ordering or receiving the wrong parts and installed levers meant for the V9 (different part number). I don't see a connection to this new check engine indication/neutral only start issue, but is there something here? I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow when they're open, but wanted to gauge the collective wisdom here.

This new check engine/neutral only start issue, and my lingering annoyance at the dealer (happy to elaborate here as needed) are the only drag about this great new bike.

Thanks all - Shakeel

The neutral start issue sounds like the V9 clutch lever is not making switch contact that the V7 lever made. Does the check engine light ever go out? If no, I'd get it back to the dealer ASAP.

Thanks the reply! Yeah the light goes out as soon as I start the bike from neutral. Runs same as usual afterwards.

I'm really annoyed at the dealer for installing the wrong levers. I noticed it right away, and the dealer parts guy first tried telling me they installed the right levers, then said the levers are physically the same I ordered but Guzzi uses different part #s for the same part for different bikes, then told me that there would be no functional difference. At that point it was late in the day and I had to concede and just get home. Discovered the start issue after refueling about 10 miles from the dealer. I'm hoping the manager of the dealer is serious about customer service. I envy all you posters that have great Guzzi dealers nearby.

Yeah, you seem to have a dealer service issue. I have been fortunate in having good dealers in nearly all of my motorcycling life.

I'm thinking also that it is the clutch lever not making contact when it should. I bought Pazzo adjustable levers and the clutch didn't fit all that well, which necessitated unscrewing the adjuster almost all the way out to get required 2mm free play, which I didn't like, so put the stock one back on. The brake lever is fine.
