turned on my bike yesterday and warmed it up, but after about 5 minutes it started to rev its self.. all the way to about 3000 rpms, then back down below idle and consistently kept doing it. I then thought okay maybe it just needs to get moving so I took it down the street and when I first released the clutch it felt like it was going to die almost like it wasn't getting any throttle or trying to move from a stop in 3rd or 4th gear.. after I decided probably not a goood idea to ride it to work, I turned it off and smelt fresh gas like a lot of it, and I swear I looked for about 10 minutes and there was no leaks anywhere. Any diagnosis or help would be great.. taking the bike in next week to the shop..

Thanks in advanced

Faulty 02-sensor or ECU map update needed. See your dealer GP.

hopefully in Sal's case it's the 02 sensor and not the ECU.

I had a similar problem on vacation in VT at the beginning of June at a rally in Bennington,

Turned out to be an electrical issue caused by a fault in the stock plug wire/cap that wiped out my guzzitech map.

fortunately for me my dealer, one of his mechanics and my good friend and fellow forum member KOF were at the same rally (a whole lot of motorcycle knowledge).

It could not be repaired in the hotel parking lot so the bike had to get transported back to CT for repair.

I was lucky the ECU was able to be reloaded with the latest guzzi map and had new wires caps and plugs.

At some point I'll have to get the GT map replaced.

I hope Sal's issue is an easy one to fix.

Thanks for the post Gerry. This is why the Forum is great. Collective minds. Sal, check your spark plug wires/caps as well.

Todd,

What really pissed me off was that I was proactive on two other knownV7 problems discussed here and on WG, i.e. the fuel filter and voltage regulator but not with the plug/wire/cap issue.

Sophia is going in for winter storage in a couple of weeks so then I'll get with Jim Hamlin about doing another reflash or the GT tool.

Regards,

Gerry

I hear you. Simple things first, often overlooked.

Very good. The symptom above wouldn't wipe out the ECU map (virtually impossible), but the fact that they likely restored the ECU to stock to eliminate that variable is what likely happened; There was an updated map for this issue early on. Happy to help you on the ECU... Write me direct email; Todd at GuzziTech.com
