I have the origional shark gill Silentium or whatever mufflers and they seem very quiet while on the road and my performance seems lagging. Anyways I took one off the bike to peer down inside and it looks like someone may have plugged the main port. If anyone has one of these off their bike or in the trash heap, could you tell me if the main baffle is open in the center on the exh inlet side?

This bike is very quiet on the hwy, and I can hardly hear the exh note and think someone may have removed the baffle and modded it. I checked the valve covers for carpet already......

When I bought my V7 Sport, the Silentiums had been repacked too tightly, so they were cleaned out and new HD baffles were installed. Sounds and runs great now.

Thanks, did you happen to notice if you could look into one end and out the other?

Sorry, no. I didn't have the opportunity to look, as the work was performed at MG Classics.

Thanks for the info. Guess i'll have to run them the way they are because i'm sure not going to take a chance and ding them up trying to get the baffles out for close inspection.

I removed the oem baffle from a pair of beat u,p but original straight cut selentium shark gills about 10 years ago. You cant see thru them, there`s a series of metal half disc baffles that make the gases flow back and forth. No packing , all mechanical. I remember removing the small panhead screw then having to bust some spot welds. I was going to repair and rechrome them... You wouldn`t believe how incredibly loud they are without those baffles !
What amazed most about the exhaust was how the crossover was constructed, quite a bit of the crossover extends into the main highway. It is a pretty restrictive system. Bill

Hey Grad,

The pipes I have have a twisty doohicky inside preventing see-through-edness.

In your second pic, there is the round item in the center of the baffle and that is what I thought was perhaps someones mod, i.e., plug that was installed. What always surprises me is how loud the exhaust can actually get when I get it on in the higher rev range. Actually has a pretty nice howl to it.

Gee, I need to check this forum a little more often :) Thanks for the detailed responce!
