Question short and simple. When the front wheel is turned to the right of center the bike cycles through and starts. When wheel is turned to the left the bike shuts off. Where would the short, be found.? No fun counter steering a tight right hand sweeper and the bike shuts off

Bill

I don't think you are looking at a short Bill, more like a loose wiring connector problem, Ignition switch connector might be a good place to start. Turn the wheel to the left with the key on and start jiggling the wires and connectors by the switch and the dash.

I think you are on the right track. Moved wheel left and wiggled the wire going into ignition switch, and nothing happened. Moved the wheel to the right again and nothing no lights this time and can't get them to come on. So I believe that it is in the ignition switch as I guess you surmised from your previous experience :D :D

Up date. With key turned on, reached the wire going into the switch, pushed the wire coming out of the unit forward towards head light, and the Christmas tree lit up, released the wire and everything shut off. Bike will be off to Moto-Nexus this afternoon (Hope the wire can be fixed as I am fearful that Luigi will have to rifle through his box of parts in Italy    )

Bill,
Am I reading this right; that it appears to be the connection at the ignition switch?
Please keep us posted on what the shop finds out.

When my ignition switch went tits up on the Griso the Warehouse in Georgia had it in stock, so hopefully they will have one in stock for a V7. Tis allot easier to get to on the V7C then a Griso, the tank had to come off for it to be accessed.

If the switch is defective and you wind up with a different key you might want to make sure that the seat lock is included with the ignition switch kit otherwise you will need 2 keys.

Up date from Moto-Nexus. Soldered broken wire but the switch was also bad. Will replace the switch. The switch ordered comes also with a new tank and seat lock. Matt said it should be here by Friday. Figures things happen when one's 24 months is up

Exact same thing happened to my V7C a few months ago - igniton would cut in and out when the handlebars were moved. Turns out two solder connections in the ignition barrel had broken loose; thankfully the switch is fairly easily repairable and the connections could be re soldered. The wires going into the ignition run straight up to the soldered connections, which support the weight of the wiring, so any downward stress will put them under load. I also rejigged the wire routing slightly and secured it to the outside of the barrel with a zip tie so the internal connections won't be stressed in the future...

If anyone else has to replace the ignition switch on their V7C, for an additional cost of 15 dollars over the cost of the switch, MG sends a new gas cap and seat lock to work with the new key :D :woohoo: no taking the gas cap apart to put in new lock. :D
