V7C - I assume the two rear shocks are the same?

I'm just about to order new rear shocks and wanted to check that the left and right have the same bottom mounts as I'll be sending the right one off (I'm sure they are, just haven't had the left side off yet).

I think the mounts are all 12mm ?

Hi and thanks,

I was going to order a pair of Hagons as there was an article in the UK guzzi mag which recommends them, but when I rang up they seemed a bit busy and were a bit random on suggesting the spring rate. So I've sent a spec sheet off to Maxton, a UK company who specialise in race bikes who are superb. I've asked for an estimate so they may be too pricey, so still not 100% decided. I've attached a link to their spec sheet from maxton below, shows the level of detail they go to!

http://www.maxton.netspinners.co.uk/files/twinshock.pdf

I'm going to get shorter shocks at 360mm as opposed to 390 as I think it looks a little high. Compare a pic of the new v7 to an old v7 sport etc, the new one has 2 inches or so clearance between the rear tyre and the mudguard, the original has none. I just think it looks a bit jacked-up. I'll also drop the forks the same amount to balance it out, I think it's by 22mm.

I'll post a pic when it's done.
Chris

Eeek, has the V7C got enough ground clearance to lower it?

The old V7 has exhausts tucked in, very tidy, but they are very wide on the new model, and flare out around the outside of the rear shocks. I assume the cans are much fatter with cats, noise regs, etc. and they couldn't replicate the original style..?

At my first service, they looked at my tyres, went a bit pale, and advised me not to crank it over any further than I had been doing.
I'm not exactly the heroic type(the tyres still have chicken strips) so I assume this is indicative of ground clearance issues :S

Let us know how you go on. I may do something similar to mine (though without lowering it), so interested to know how it works out.

Did you ever drag any metal pieces before you were advised ( which I don't get at all) not to lean as much ? It's a Guzzi for Pete's sake not a ah well I won't get into that !

I have a V7C and IMO it has plenty of ground clearance for lowering with the proper spring rate and preload.

I do drive a Breva, but I don't think they differ in clearance.
And my experience are the same.

And did, even before I mounted the lower MI-pegs.

I never ran out of clearance; but then, they didn't tell me I was leaning too far, just that I didn't want to keep going and lean it even further. The fellow who told me that has ridden a V7C back from Mandello to the UK with a group of others when the model was launched, so he was pretty familiar with how it handled.

I've never ridden with others on V7Cs so I don't know how they look cranked over. Those cans are low and extremely wide, and look as if they could go down if the rear squatted a lot -- dropping them an inch closer to the road and having a softer spring could just be enough.

My experience of running out of ground clearance on other bikes (VFR750, Speed Triple) is that you can ride for miles on twisty roads with no bother, and then you go into a corner with bumps in just the wrong places and bang! there's something bashing the road!

If you have your toes on the pegs, I'm impressed :D And clearly need to try harder

If you have your instep on the pegs, then boots go down really early, which is a good warning, just so long as you don't go any further. Getting a foot jammed between the road and brake lever isn't good, especially if you need to tighten your line. Foot between road and gear shift doesn't bear thinking about.

Funny, I noticed that the footpegs have holes in the end for hero blobs/bobs (or whatever you call them), but I guess they are probably used across models, made me wonder about ground clearance though.

And, yes, the pipes do stick out. In fact my left one is about 25mm futher out than the right. I had a look over it and I think it's just down to the footrest/silencer bracket being out of line. I plan to 'adjust' it when I get a chance. In fact looking at the other pipe I think they can come in by another 1/2' or so. I think they should still clear the shocks, the issue may be with the angle on the downpipe if you bend the silencer bracket.

Can you get a paddock stand for a guzzi ?

- we call them anxiety nipples...

Nah. Hopeless. You need a set of the reverse cone Mistral cans. It's a safety issue.

(Excuse me. Just practising the argument. Not sure it's fully enough developed yet to be deployed against the wife.)

I'm planning on using my NWS Ulti-Pro http://www.n-w-s.com/stands/ . It is designed with pins that fit into hollow swingarm spindles, but you can use a 5/8" socket as an adaptor for swingarms that don't have a hollow spindle but do have a hex head or nut. It lifts my Africa Twin like that; V7 should be a doddle.

I put a set of IKONs on my V7C. Pretty satisfied with this. Big improvment from stock.

My own V7c has yet to arrive from the wearhouse but should be here soon. After reading all the info on here about V7C mods, I'm quite sure I want to replace the shocks soon after I get my hands on it. What model number of Icon shock did you go with ? From what I could see on the Icon website, they look like a good shock. Have fun, Max

I/GuzziTech offer the YSS 302 emulsion as shown below (click pic for more details) @$459 USD. Happy to ship Worldwide.

Sorry to dig up an old thread here.
Looking at lowering my V7C. Going with Todd's YSS shocks.
What's the most amount that someone has safely lowered their bike? I'd like to go somewhere between 1/2-1". At what point would I have clearance issues, or have to cut down the kickstand?
What length shorter shocks has anyone else used?
BTW, the Sachs shocks should be called Suchs.

I spoke to Hagons some while ago and they couldn't help with replacement shocks. The guys at Corsa Italiana where I bought my V7C recommended Ikon shocks as they have adjustable preload and rebound damping. I think they came out at around £300.00 the pair. There wasn't too much choice of suitable shocks when I last looked. I think it's something to do with the top mount clearance but I could be wrong.

How much of an angle does the bike have when on the kick-stand? Perhaps post a picture and I can give you some feedback on it.

Yes, the fitment of most aftermarket shocks are an issue because of the long top mount. Currently I can offer the RZ 302s, or we can certainly try a set of inverted RG 302s for anyone is the U.S. that cares to try them.

I would be willing to try the RG302's. Are they returnable if they don't fit?
Are these the models with separate rebound and damping? The G-302 TRCL. Website shows max length of 340mm.

They are built to order (springs and valving are custom based on *your* specs). However, they are returnable with a re-stock fee.
Is your question above asking if it has separate compression & rebound damping, then yes they do. I have the RG shown below (click pic for more info). I don't know what website you are looking at, but the lengths can be had in sizes up through 500mm+.
Contact me direct e-mail for more info/to order; Todd at GuzziTech.com
