Hi,

Newb here! I got a v7ii used at about 8K+ miles. It's now at 9050 miles. I was told it got the 10 km service before I bought it. It generally ran fine, maybe with a bit of rough idling once in a while. (At one point I took it in to a local mechanic for a little checkup and he found two sensors disconnected under the side panels (o2 from exhaust or something like that), and reconnected them. The bike ran a bit smoother, but no huge difference.)

Then I went on a 5-week vacation (!), so it sat. It started back up fine, but now it's doing a weird thing where sometimes it'll bog off the line, and then surge. And when that starts to happen, when you blip the throttle a bit, it goes high and doesn't want to come back down. But sometimes it runs fine.

I took it into a different local mechanic (I'm trying out local mechanics), who "adjusted the throttle cable and mixture screw" a bit, forgot why I had brought it in, and decided I "needed" a valve job and oil change and filter change and.... Anyway, I told him to go away. I think all he really did was lose one of my side cover screws...

It did ride well going home, but then the problem seems still to be there. Any ideas of where I should start poking around? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Unless the bike has been really abused you are just now at the break in point & that is a good beginning for a Guzzi.
Congratulations!

Guzzi's are a bit different than most bikes & they need a little more attention than other brands but once the bugs are worked out become very faithful & well loved companions.
I mention this because most owners enjoy tinkering with their bike, so if you don't have an inclination towards learning mechanical things it may prove frustrating for you.

What you are experiencing is a fairly normal thing & not difficult to fix but will cost a little bit of money, more or less depending on your willingness to be involved. Just a note here about taking the bike to a shop, try not to because even a good shop may have difficulty diagnosing & actually fixing it. You made a good choice to pull the bike from the place you posted about.

Not knowing the history of the bike you will want to start with some basic stuff like checking/setting the valves (not a valve job just an adjustment). I'm getting ahead of myself because it's unlikely a valve adjustment will solve your problems. Plugs & plug wires, fuel filter, cracked vac hoses, bad gas can all be small parts of the problem.

Okay, I'm actually going to stop here & hope that some of the V7 owners will take over & point you in the correct direction.

I had similar problems that you are describing, it was suggested on one of the forums to disconnect the o2 sensors which I did and touch wood it's been ok since. Steve.

As stated above, putting it into the hands of the unknowledgeable is a dangerous place to be. There is no mixture screw... it's fuel injected. Even the dealers are spotty at best. Don't screw around, you're likely only making it worse... just get it to my shop. Click the Service tab at the top. Drop off in Malibu or Orange.

thanks everyone. i didn't even know you were (sorta) local. it's actually a bit hard for me to replicate the problem, but anyway...malibu is nice i hear.
