V85 airbox questions; now that I have modified the exhaust/decated and remapped with Upmap, added K&N filter; wondering about two rectangular openings on bottom of air box ; one being taped and the other open; what are the pros and cons of opening both? Thanks John

That will require changing the map again. Any time you change intake or exhaust, the map needs to be updated. Let me tell you something, the enemy of good is better!

Thanks for the reply; so the Upmap remapping I just did Isn’t adequate for just opening one more little rectangle on the airbox?

It depends upon what map you have. There is another thread about V85TT air box modifications so you might want to search for it.

Maybe not. And you have to make sure that opening that rectangle doesn't allow unfiltered air into the engine.

Those rectangular openings (one covered with thick rubber tape) are on the “dirty” side of the filter. I think the tape is a cushioning pad between the battery and air box. I wondered if mine was missing a piece of tape, but your description sounds the same as mine. The air box on the V85TT has thin plastic inside that forms the seal around the filter element so I use sealing grease there after finding evidence of leakage. I have a K&N filter to install when I get a chance and am considering moving the tape so it provides cushioning without blocking the opening.

You can cut the whole front side of the airbox to allow maximum air to the filter. Do a search and you'll see 2 different methods of cutting the airbox. Again, you'll need to get a new map installed. But for zero dollars, it's a good mod to do. Your bike will be happier.
