V85TT tappet noise.

Only "US-spec." Both Euro spec and the sticker under the seat, even on US models puts them at .006/.008"
Interesting.

I wonder if the 0.004"/0.006" spec was initiated owning to complaints about tappet noise? It seems like I've read that somewhere, perhaps on this forum. Also, I wonder if the tighter spec provides slightly better performance?

Mostly emission/sound reasoning, and no on performance. I was involved in EPA/CARB testing on several models with a different manufacturer here.

Ok, thank you for the clarification!

I will continue to use 0.006"/0.008" on future valve lash adjustments.

Hello there,

I have a V85TT from 2019 and last weekend i had a situation that would like to share with you and have your help.
My MG has only 6500 kms and when riding on a dirty road for maybe 45 min climbing hills i started hearing Valves tapping in first gear and some kind of power loss.
The motor was really hot and after I stopped it (arrived to the destination) and let it cool down i did not ear that noise again.
It was very similar to the noise you can ear when you try to start using the wrong gear (2nd or 3 th gear).
Any help is kindly appreciated

When these things get hot they tend to do that, at least mine does. Once I can get some movement going in clear air to cool it all down then things get back to normal.

During the first few thousand miles on a hot day mine did that while leaving a stop sign or under a hard load. I am sure it was pre-ignition/detonation not valves. I always ran premium fuel, but that doesn't mean it was good fuel. This might or might not be your issue, but it did go away after a break-in of 5000 miles or so.
