V9 security - room for chain lock?

Hi,

I'm hoping to pick up my v9 bobber soon (my first guzzi having defected from Triumph) and I want to secure it as best as possible as bike crime is pretty bad here. My best bet seems to be a chain lock (reading tells me the Almax IV is the best) but given it's a rather heavy and expensive piece of kit, I was hoping someone could confirm they have also been able to secure the bike with a chunky chain lock. It doesn't look like it will fit through the spokes but I can see a gap above the muffler. I'm also a bit worried it might scratch the muffler.

Any thoughts/ help would be much appreciated!

Hi, C-dawg, after watching YouTube I just can,t believe the cheek of these bastards who go around stealing bikes over in the UK.

Christ I watched a pair cutting through a chained up Ducati with a disc grinder while everyone stood around and watched so you would wonder if anything would stop them.
Will you be chaining it to a ground anchor or post ?

Not sure what they a like but there is also a motion sensing disc lock available.
What ever you do I did hear fitting a bike cover to completely hide the bike will also help.

Yeah, apparently you can put in an order for the bike you want and these gangs will go out and find that bike for you.

Anyway, I have always had a xena 14 disk lock but i want to beef up overnight security. My local bike parking bay has ground anchors so want to make the most of that if I can.

Man, less than five years ago, not many motorcyclist even knew what Guzzi's were. Seems that the V7 is kind of the slightly targeted one here in the States. I've only heard of a one-hand few that have been stolen. The V9 sales have been flat here, so I would be surprised if they are high on the theft ring target.
All said, a coated chain or cable lock and a cover are good, but not fool proof if they really want it. Do they have Lowjack type theft devices there?

Apparently there are 10ish losely coordinated gangs in London that either zip around on scooters or vans. The vans are what I'm really afraid of. They are known to scope our your bike beforehand, and then show up in uniforms with paperwork matching your license plate. If anyone questions they say they are re-posessing it and they show them the official looking form. If it's not chained down they will just lift it into the van. If it is they will try to bust the chain. They'll then have the bike in a garage and torn down asap. It is totally out of control.

I want to make it as painful as possible for them to pick my bike without also making it a pain in the ass for me to unlock it every time.
