V9 Valve clearances

My reading says that the valve clearances should be set to 4 thou inlet and 6 thou exhaust.

However I see multiple recommendations here that it should be 6 & 8 respectively and I believe that Todd uses this base for his maps

I just wondered why the recommendation to move away from the makers manual.
What is the advantage?

Plus if have a bog standard map on my Roamer so is 6 & 8 a good plan
 
See the sticker under the seat. Spec is .006/.008" except North America only as I understand it.
 
No, it's cause they want them quiet, no noise. They also tried it in 09 on the V7C, didn't work, burnt valves. I made all smallblocks sold from our dealerships .006 & 8. No matter what their book said. Their engineers weren't born yet when they had issues in 1978. Some of their mistakes happen more than once.

I've also gone through the owners manual that came with the bike.....nothing
I suspect that the workshop manual I found online was for the US bikes hence 4/6 thou
So, is the agreed wisdom that 6/8 is the way to go?

I've got the v7iii carbon shine, and mine's the same as @tris - nothing under the seat except tyre pressures. Am about to check valves, so would be good to know whether it's 4/6 or 6/8 thou. Cheers!
 
I’ve posted this before somewhere. I have these two bikes in my shop right now... First below is from a 2019 V7 III. Second is a 2021 V7-850. Unless the 853cc motor has titanium valves, I’ll check that next, no reason not to use the looser tolerances as they make more power on the dyno that way too.
