VDSTS stepper motor test

Has anyone ever tried to test the stepper motor using VDSTS (Active tests->Miscellaneous)?

VDSTS starts a test for 32 secs but the stepper motor is not heard (no whirring sounds) and eventually the test always fails. This is strange because there are no ECU error codes and when turning the ignition key of my Griso 8V the stepper motor is heard doing its usual thing. So can anyone try this test and post what VDSTS reports on his bike? Is it an inability of VDSTS or an indication that something is wrong with the stepper motor on my bike?

(I have reason to believe that there could be somthing wrong, see https://www.guzzitech.com/forum/160/3687.html#p33612)

Hi RBP,

It's a rainy Saturday down here, so I hooked up my new VDST to my '06 Breva 1100 and obtained the same result as you. It came up initially with a window about observing the actuator arm, so I clicked OK, ran for 32 seconds, no sound from the bike at all, then the fail. No error codes either.

What it means, I have no idea, but I hope it helps you.

Thanks for checking it out, really appreciate it :D
What it means to me is that I no longer have to focus on this failed test of VDST because it looks like some sort of an inability of VDST. In the mean time my problems with the bike have been communicated to Guzzi itself in Italy...

Rob, with some luck you *might* be able to catch Giamberto at TR today via e-mail; gscaccia at technoresearch.com - he'll probably respond asking for a number to reach you at. Post again once you talk to him.

yep My 08 Norge did the same thing
And like has been said not alarm on the dash i did not concerned myself for now
But if i did have a problem down the road would be nice to know it actually works.
Please keep us informed after your phone call
I think i might just go ahead and wire the stepper to a on/off switch mounted on the right handle bar

I've had contact with TechnoResearch and they requested me to execute the stepper motor test with the engine running. So I did and now the test does pass successfully! When I stopped the engine and re-executed the test, it failed again. So it appears that the engine must indeed be running for this test. I've reported this to TechnoResearch and they told me that in a next release of VDST the user will be informed that the engine must running.

One thing I expected to happen executing this test with the engine running was a change in idle rpm when the stepper motor
is activated by VDST. However, no such thing. I have this observation still outstanding to TechnoResearch.
