I want to check what slide springs I have in my Ambo's carbs.Since finding and installing new springs in the carb pumps (old ones had decomposed) the throttle is not shutting cleanly.I have done all the normal checks to make sure the problem is not the cables, throttle, etc. As far as I am aware, there are 2.0kg,1.6kg and 1.1kg springs that could possibly be fitted.I have even seen 0.8kg springs available for the VHB's.Guzziology states that the 'lightest' spring is made from .042" wire but seems a bit ambiguous. My springs measure .044".
Is there anyone out there who knows the diameter of the various spring types please?
I will probably put new 'standard' springs in as those fitted may be a bit tired.

Hey Bruno,

Good question. I am running VHB's again in the G5 and these are crampingly heavy gauge. I would like to understand the options.

I have used lighter springs in the past with success in round slide 'pumper' carbs but did not have the resistance of the internal pump spring pushing against the slide needle.Had to make sure the cables were working nice and free though.

I have an 850t (74) with VHB's and I have just measured the springs at 40 thou. When I 1st got this bike ( not going ) I had heard stories of wrist wreaking return springs but mine have never been an issue for me, if anything I have been bugged by " long twist" , you nearly need 2 handfuls to get full throttle and then I saw your post and a penny dropped ( yeah .... some things just don't register ) but I have a Yamaha twist grip throttle / switch assy of an XZ550 ( the guzzi switches were rooted , stupid and apparently never that great ) and Im thinkin that the diameter where the cable winds on is probly a smaller diameter than the Guzzi one . I also have a cable splitter box

and I made my own cables and I do remember getting the lightest inner cables I could find ( stainless mountain bike gear control cables ...... 6 bucks for a 2 meter cable ..... even had a nipple ) , and .... well....., I seriously hate sticky throttles and my throttle fair snaps shut , and my accelerator pumps do work ;)
