Way to forcibly remove baffles?

Hi - I have the original silentiums on the bike but need re-chrome bad. Would rather rechrome originals which are nice and straight all the way to the end whereas the reps are sort of bubbled at the tail of the pipe.

Any tips on getting slightly corroded baffles out? I am willing to completely destroy them in the process and hopefully find some other baffle or a replacement to refit after.

Re: Way to forcibly remove silencers?

Soak the joint with a penetrating oil. A 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF just might do the trick. Let it sit at least overnight then try to remove with a twisting action.

Re: Way to forcibly remove silencers?

Also need to figure out how to get the breaker bar attached to the silencers for that twisting action.

Just use your hands. If that doesn't work, use a strap wrench. I've been able to locate some that use a rubber strap. I think I got them at Sears.

Re: Way to forcibly remove silencers?

Remove clamps and drive it until you hear a rattle. Unless they are absolutely rusted solid this will usually do it.

Wow, I can't believe I did this thread with the wrong word. Not silencer - BAFFLES. How do I get these baffles out of the silencer?

Eeech.

I don't think they can be removed without destroying the muffler. Maybe Todd can hook you up with a suitable look alike set of mufflers. If you are seeing rust on the surface of the mufflers, it probably has pretty weak steel under the chrome by now. Have you Checked with Harper's http://www.harpermoto.com/v7-sport-sile ... er-lh.html They list a LH silentium for a V7 Sport, They might be able to find a RH if you call. Or the later model slash cuts may work for you.

No rust. They're solid. Chrome just burned/aged off in a few places. The reason I want to redo these is they are straight all the way the end, all the replacements for sale out there are flared at the end, has a distinctly non-original look to me...
