Found an old Moto Guzzi in a ladies garage. Can someone tell me what year and model it is from frame number, Moto Guzzi 1096*? It's pretty rusted but looks to be all there. What is it worth? Are they worth restoring? Looks like a really cool old bike, any idea what I should offer?

Ehh...maybe a picture would be helpful. Is it a single or a twin. sounds like a single but it is hard to determent from just those four digits.

It's a twin. No pictures, I was hoping frame number would tell me something. I have been looking on web and it seems to be a late 60's V700.

Considering its condition (guessing since no pictures but you said rusted) it may be worth something for parts. Considering the approximate vintage, it probably has chrome bores. That means the cylinders and pistons will probably toast on the first start up. Many of the parts for these machines are no longer available and someone restoring one may be able to use some of it. Again, pictures would help in evaluating what you have found.

Without photos, I'd guess it's a '67 V700. Check the engine number as well - will be on the left side just under the oil fill/dipstick (which has a 22mm hex-head). The engine number won't likely match, that's normal on V700s.

If it's "rusted" and is indeed "all there" it's worth about $1000 tops. Definitely worth restoring, but you'll spend quite a few $$ to do it right and won't likely ever see a return on your investment.

If you're serious about the bike and restoring it, my first bit of advice would be to join the Loopframe Guzzi Yahoo Group: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Loopframe_Guzzi/ . The "Loop Group" is devoted to these great old Guzzis and is the best forum for advice, parts sources, etc.

Here's a nice V700:
