What's this in the exhaust can?

With the exhaust can off I notice a loud rattle from inside it.



This photo is taken looking inside in th direction of flow - it looks like the loose object (just bove centre with the horizontal lines) used to be positioned in the pipe attached to the annular ridges - is it some sort of baffle?


It wouldn't come out so I put it back on and it sounded the same. Have got an new Quill unit ordered (just).

you shouldn't put a cat in the exhaust, some woman has just got into trouble with the law for putting a cat in the wheelie bin :D
