Wheel Bearings - when to replace?

The Griso 1100 has about 37,000 miles on it now and after greasing the headset I was wondering about the wheel bearings.

With Road Bicycles and Mountain Bikes I've always re-packed loose / replaced sealed - wheel bearings every 10,000 miles or less.

When do you replace the front wheel bearings on a Guzzi? I'm not sure how to repack sealed bearings

Does anyone have a source for non-contact sealed bearings? Ceramics are so expensive.
 
Wheel bearings are not repacked, they are replaced. When you have a wheel off for a tire change, use a finger to rotate the inner race. If you feel any grinding or notches, replace both bearings. There is no set time for replacement, they could last well over 100k miles, or fail next week.
 
When I worked at a dealer we saw two bikes need new front wheel bearings at less than 10k miles, whereas my own Griso with 25k is still fine. As John says, if you've taken the wheel off its a good time to check and perhaps replace as a matter of preventative maintenance.
