Hello all,
Looking to buy a 1100 California. Currently I have a choices between a 1994 California or 1999 EV11, is there much difference beside the 94 having carbs and would that be an advantage/disadvantage? Both bike have approximately 30K miles give or take 2K. Will be used mainly for leisurely and short over night rides. Did the older 1100's have heavier flywheels?
Any opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For fuel economy the 1994. The 1999 I think still has the P8 which is not the greatest ECU. If the 99 has the 15M ECU, go with that bike. The 1999 does have wheels that can be run tubeless which is a big plus in my opinion. I think the 94 has spokes and requires tubes with each tire change unlike later spoke wheels that do not need tubes. Tough call but the difference in price may sway you. I think all the 1100s use the same flywheel. Also the 1999 has better front forks.

Thanks for the quick reply. The 94 with carbs would get better fuel economy than the injected bike huh? I never would have thought that. It's probably "cammed" a little different with the injection. Yeah I was noticing that the 99 has the tubeless rims, I consider that a plus too. I never knew the forks were diff.
I'm making the switch from a Griso to something with a little less extreme riding and shifter position. I have arthritis in my left ankle and the Griso is no longer enjoyable to ride. I figured the floorboards and shifter on a Cali would be easier on the old joints. I see that you have a Breva 1100, how do you like it?

The difference in technology between the two makes it a no-brainer if in fact the EV is a '00; They never officially had a '99 outside of arguably the Bassa, so check to see what the production date is stamped on the headset plate. If it's a '98, then it's a toss up outside of the wheels IMO, though either is stone reliable. If it's a early '99 ('00 production model), it gets the nod (per John's words above) as it will have the small 15M ECU under the left side cover, and not the larger (automotive-based P8) under the seat. The '00+ California 1100s with the 15M ECU are a joy to own. Many '98 EV owners have complaints with the seat, as the seat pan depth over the P8 computer is minimal.

Good info, I'll have to check the date plate and see if it is actually a 2000. The seat height appears to be a little higher than the Jackal I sat on a few days ago, it felt a little cramp for my height(6'1"). Does the floorboards help out any with the legroom any on the Cali's?

All EV seats are higher then the Jackal/Bassa/Stone, etc. Yes, the floorboards are further forward then the pegs. I'm 6'0", and the EV is pretty decent (though perhaps a little cramped) for long trips.

Thank you very much. I just need to make sure I give any bike I find a good look over. I know the engines and transmissions are very sturdy I use to own a 2004 V11, it was a great bike! Thanks for all the great info.

If 98 or pre- 03, Corbin makes an excellent seat for it. I think Guzzi hired the seat maker from BMW, never could go over a hundred miles on the stock seat on those bikes. The pain was just too much. http://corbin.com/motoguzzi/ev1100.shtml I didn't get the back rests and all the fancy trim and it worked great. I'm a little shorter than you guys (5" 10"), and the raised seating position was great with plenty of leg to be flat footed at a stop.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. I'm still in the process of getting the actual date of manufacture on the 99 after what you and Todd informed me of EV's not actually being imported in 99.
