Winter Storage - Is this OK?

This process is called fogging the engine which involves giving a coat of thick oil film within your cylinder heads to prevent rusting and seizing.
If I started it up for 5 minutes every month would I still need to do this? And is starting up for a few minutes per month a good idea?

start up and ride around the block so the engine gets properly warm...yes...

start up and idle? not a good idea as it doesn't warm up and circulate the oil around the head properly...

you will end up doing more harm than good just idle.

Really, pulling the plug & fog the engine is one of the easiest thing you can do with Guzzi bikes

Yes if you can run it monthly that is best. 5 minutes isn't enough to fully warm it up, but a trip around the block for 10 minutes under moderate load keeps everything happy. If you don't have road salt that is. I used to ride my Bonneville around when it was below zero. The only thing I'd avoid is road salt, that stuff is nasty. As for covers, I use them a lot and I find quality really matters. You don't have to spend a fortune but the one I kept my Eldorado under was a Harley brand cover and it worked great, no leaks but good ventilation. Cheap covers trap moisture, yet leak water in at the same time. There are covers available that are designed to cocoon the bike. I haven't tried one but there is that option.

fogging is a waste of money for a 4 stroke. it was made for 2 strokes to be sprayed straight into the carb at that point it coats the crank, bearings and all moving parts.
all you need is Startron, and marine stabil ( better safe than sorry) with fresh non ethanol premium for the fuel. fresh oil change then wash it, ride it 10-20 miles and put it away for up to a year and it will be fine.
