Hi all,

I picked up my Stelvio in November and love it. The only issue has been fitting the Guzzi alarm (a requirement for insurance). The dealer tried three alarms before keeping the bike for a week, and discovering there is a harness issue. The alarm works fine when just connected to the harness, but when everything is bent back into mounting position, you can hear the relays clicking in and out as connection is lost. The new harness arrived PDQ (less than two weeks) but the weather here has been so bad it's only been today that I could ride it over... So watch this space I'll update you. Guzzi in Mandello say they've never had one before, and didn't even have a part no for the harness.

The ride over in 3C and rain and wind was wonderful, when I haven't been able to get out on it for weeks. Doncha love heated clothing and grips?

The Factory alarm is required for insurance ??? If so would not that disqualify many bikes ? I certainly would be looking at an alternative alarm system other the the one offered by Guzzi. Just MY opinion if applicable.

It possibly depends on where you live in the UK, my insurance wasn't bothered about an alarm, but did want the immobiliser, which is standard on all new Guzzis.

You only have to visit Essex to understand why.

Yeah, and the all up cost of the bike. The NTX is north of £11k, and that's the issue I think. Can't complain though, insurance is only £180 a year to cover three bikes....

Which insurer is stating you need an alarm? Usually insurers can get a bit finicky about bikes such as Hayabusa's and Triumph rocket 3's, but not Guzzi's. Usually insurance companys give discounts for Thatcham approved alarms, immobilisers, security markings etc. But this is usually 10% and it doesn't matter how many security systems you have the maximum is 10%. All the insurers I have been quoted for accept the Guzzi immobilser. I pay £170 fully comp. And that is kept on private property but not garaged.

I know that the modern Guzzi's have a connection for their rebadged systems (Metasystems) But I have not read any encouraging reviews of these. Lots of gremlins.

I have used Datatool systems 3 and 4 in the past. Datatool 4's on my Triumph Tiger and Breva 1100. But I have come to the conclusion that a very good quality lock, chain and ground anchor are the best security and a portable version for when you are out and about. No one pays any attention to alarms. If you are looking for some type of warning that some ner do well is touching your pride and joy install a snitcher and keep a baseball bat near the door :D
