Question about error codes

Since the CARC bikes permit us to access the ECU and Dashboard error codes under the Diagnostics section of the Menu, here's my question. Is there any documentation on how to use these for troubleshooting? In other words, if I open Diagnostics, and, for example, find that Throttle Value (ECU10) has an 'x' after it, how do I interpret that? Does it mean that the ECU is not receiving ANY signal from (probably) the TPS, or does it mean that the value is simply out of an acceptable range. Same for Engine Temperature. Is an 'x' telling me it is out of range, or that there is no signal from a temperature sensor? Same for Ignition Coils 1 and 2, injectors 1 and 2, and others.

More useful would be ...... if there Is any documentation available that says " .... when you see error code ECU15 (for example), this error could be caused by (a), (b), (c), or (d).

Or is this level of detail available only through Moto Guzzi technician training?
 
Also if it is an active error or in memory says a few things also. Basically the documentation for these error codes is non existent as far as I know. The x I believe only appears if there is no signal or a recognizable fault (as in heater for the Lambda failing) and not an incorrect value. How would a computer know if it is incorrect? That would require reasoning that just isn't programmed into these units. Active codes will tell you where to investigate. Codes in memory report the past. To really know what is actually going on you need diagnostic software (VDSTS, Centurion, Axone, Navigator) to read values in real time. Reading the values will tell you if a sensor is out of range which the on board diagnostics cannot do.

EDIT: Since Guzzi didn't locate the TPS and the 'sacred screw on the same TB, iIt would have been a nice ECU option if MG would have added one simple option. Namely, a TPS reset as part of the on-board diagnostics. How nice, scroll thru Diag menu, select TPS RESET, perform hi and idle balancing, then select TPS RESET once again. That would take next to no ECU smarts. Either that, or perhaps Todd could come up with an inexpensive routine built into a 'dongle' that could remain on the bike, and performed only that function, vs having to purchase a full copy of VDSTS.
