Hello, this is my first time on the forum. Bought a new 2015 stone in February this year and finally got enough miles to do my first checkup. I've worked on plenty of bikes before but never a guzzi so I've got a couple of questions to ask. First was if I remove the rubber plug that allows looking at the flywheel edge will I find some kind of marks that will show tdc for each cylinders? I used the straw method to find tdc and it worked out pretty well. This method showed the valves to be pretty snug so I set them at .15 and .20. The bike runs fine but makes a little more valve noise when cold but sounds fine when completely warms up. Mostly want to know if there are marks under the rubber plug that I could use along with the straw method, oh yeah I used the rear wheel to rotate the engine. Any advise would be very helpful.

Tom, Not sure if there are any marks on the newer bikes. They were common on Loop and Tonti Frame bikes, but once Guzzi went to single plate clutches there isn't much of anything to put a mark on. On the old bikes they were marked, but weren't reliable. The straw technique is as good of not better than having flywheel marks.

no marks. but did you retorque the heads first. if not go research it here. plenty of directions. also every nut screw and fastener needs tightening.
No vagrant I didn't re-torque the heads. I did put a torque wrench on one of the large nuts that hold down the rocker shafts and it clicked without the nut tightening more. I do keep an eye on most other nuts and bolts that I can get to.

I've been told that's not wise and that the bolts are often over-torqued at the factory and therefore should be cracked off and re-torqued.

Perhaps more importantly a number of Guzzi mechanics have said that failing to retorque them may bite you in the end.
