Wrong mixture after replacing mufflers v65?

Here is an update. Took the mufflers off again and put them back on, but this time used some Permatex super copper silicone to make a better seal. Replaced the spark plugs, replaced the o-ring of the idle speed screw on the left carb (looked very worn). Now the bike runs smooth. Although...

Wrong mixture after replacing mufflers v65?

John, what do you mean by "internals may be shot? This weekend I will try to seal the pipes better, maybe that will help. There are no intake modifications. The airfilter is stock and the carbs too. As for what Hawghauler mentioned, the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs were all replaced a...

Wrong mixture after replacing mufflers v65?

Recently I replaced my old mufflers for a set of used stock v65 SP (my bike is not SP) mufflers, which look almost the same only 2 cm shorter. I went for a ride they felt great. But after the engine warmed up it started hesitating when accelerating. It would idle ok, but as soon as I pull the...

Suspicious Screech - Transmission or Camshaft?

I had a similar thing. It sounded like this: The problem was that a mechanic (I don't use his service anymore) did not fill enough oil in the gearbox. I added extra gearbox oil 1000 ml (not 900 ml like the manual says) and the bad noise disappeared, but a mild whine remains.

Starter motor replacement for v65 (1985)

So just to complete this thread, I bought a new chinese aftermarket starter motor from Germany on ebay. It was only 78 € including shipping to the Netherlands, the price was too tempting so I couldn't resist taking the risk. It was easy to fit it and it started the engine with the first button...

    Breva 750 Starter Problems.

A small update. the seller replied to my email saying the torque power of the starter is 1.1 kW, and not 0.6 kW as shown on the label, they put the wrong label by accident. It makes sense, it's hard to believe it would work with only half the spec power.

    Breva 750 Starter Problems.

John, my curiousity won me over. Once I got back from work I installed the starter and it worked just fine. How long it will serve me remains to be seen, but 78 € including shipping is not a terribly high price to pay if it breaks. What surprised me was how much smaller it is than the Lucas...

    Breva 750 Starter Problems.

Today I received the aftermarket starter motor I ordered from German ebay. According to the description it should fit my MG v65, but to my surprise the power stated on the label is 0.6 kW and not 1.1 kW as advertised on ebay. I already emailed the shop. Yet I am not sure if I should attempt to...

    Breva 750 Starter Problems.

Thanks John, i was aware of euromotoelectrics - their prices look reasonable, and now that you say their products are ok, I can order with more confidence. I also found this http://www.startenladen.nl/Startmotor-Moto-Guzzi-D6RA21, it's sold locally, but I know no one who bought anything from...

    Breva 750 Starter Problems.

John, any recommendations for an after market starter? I am looking to replace the crappy Lucas starter on my v65 (1985) with something that doesn't need a finger push to start.

K&N filters and crankcase breather modification for v65

By the way, how easy/difficult is it to remove the factory airbox from a v65? I hope it's not necessary to split the bike...

Starter motor replacement for v65 (1985)

Thanks for the info. I will go witht the Valeo starter then. They cost around 80 € second hand here. My guess is it's better to get a genuine second hand Valeo starter than a new knock-off...

Starter motor replacement for v65 (1985)

Hello guzzi people, I am back from a long (~2500 km) motorcycle trip (it was awesome). The old Guzzy did very well. So my trust in the old machine grew a lot since I bought it 4 months ago. A few small issues did come up however. One of them - the starter motor. It scared the hell out me when...

K&N filters and crankcase breather modification for v65

I am very interested in your progress. My wife and I are still on tour. We did around 1800 km with our old guzzi so far. We'll be back home soon and shortly after that I will start the modifications. So it would be interesting to know how it's going for you. I am particularly interested in...

What's the deal, are the original people gone?

My questions are usually answered by John Zibell, thanks to him I managed to fix a few things without having to go the machanic :) I think there are a few people like john who know their stuff about guzzi's (smallblock), and more people like me who want to know more... But wait a year or two...

How to replace speedo drive v65?

So here is an update. I did change the speedo drive successfully. Like I thought it was not necessary to remove the front wheel. I put the bike on the center stand and and slipped a wooden box under the engine sump in order to avoid the bike tipping over to the front. I unscrewed all the...

How to replace speedo drive v65?

My second speedo drive failed after a meachanic put in the new one (http://www.tlm.nl/webshop/en/speedo-drive-gear-set-v35-v65-617625300000-moto-guzzi). I've just received another one from my MG parts dealer (for free) and I'm thinking that this time I could do it myself. My question, is it...

Unstable idle after cleaning the carbs

So I checked the tension of the choke cables, looked fine to me, there is a few milimeters of slack as far as I can tell. I also took out the choke plunger of the left side carburetor (to access the right one I need to remove the tank), the rubber has a tiny oval grove from sitting on that...
