I bought this bike at the beginning of the summer and its not only my first guzzi but also my first motorcycle purchase...she's got about 30k miles on her but she's in great condition for the most part. I had to replace the shift linkage right off the bat and hook up an new battery but that was all pretty straight forward.

I've been riding her around all summer with no issues aside from the infrequent stale out if she's warmed up all the way and the one time I ran out of gas...I was running some errand on saturday and stopped at my local deli to grab some lunch meats and when I came outside she refused to get started. I can hear the faint flicker of the electrical componets attacehd to the battery trying to get the starter going but the engine doesnt turn over. I was going to try to hop-start the bike to get a better idea of what could be goofed up but I live in Philly so its kinda difficult considering the area is very flat....anyone have an idea as to what could be going wrong? The horn works just fine so I know its not a battery issue - tank has been filled - I dont where else to troubleshoot...

Any sugguestions are helpful...

Thanks,
Joe

From your write up, the engine doesn't turn over. First is to clean electrical connections. Second, If you can jumper from the spade terminal on the solenoid to the battery connection at the solenoid, this relay mod should help you. https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/modern-no-start-issue-solution.4908/ It is an issue that first appeared in small blocks them migrated to the newer bikes. Then if all else fails, troubleshoot your circuits using the guidance here. https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/troubleshooting-circuits.3001/

Thanks John - do you know of any posts outlining the best way to clean electrical connections?

Remove any visible corrosion on large connectors (battery, ground points) with a mild abrasive (Scotchbrite, fine sand paper, wire brush). Spray connections after disassembly with something like TV Tuner and Contact cleaner. This is available at Radio Shack. There are other cleaners available and I'm sure someone will mention them.
