88mm Barrels fitting problems ?

I have recently started building a spare round barrel Le Mans engine from parts collected over the past two years and I went to fit the 88mm Barrels I had bought secondhand some while ago, only to find that one would fit and the other would not ?
on inspection it turns out that some bright spark has turned down the outside surface of one of the barrels to get it to fit the crankcase.

Now my dilemma is this,
1) is it ok to fit the barrel that has been turned down ?
if it is then i will get the same done to the other one and carry on.

2) if not and the previous work has ruined the barrel, can new liners be fitted easily ?
mine look like they are just cast liners, not chromed or plated.

any ideas welcome ?

Seemed to be standard practice for the Niksil sets from Gillardoni to get them turned down...of course you can also bore out the cases but that's more difficult and expensive.Your only taking off about 1mm

If it is just a tad tight an abrasive flap wheel will do the trick instead of boring the case. Precision is not really required here. The PO in this case did the right thing so don't diss him. To add to what Chris A said the bores as they come from Gilardoni have plenty of meat so not to worry and welcome to the world of low production italian motorcycles - you have to figure some things out for yourself.

ok cheers for the advice, i think i will just get the other barrel turned down to match the other .

second problem, I have being trying to source some le mans high comp pistons to fit these 88mm barrels
has anyone got a couple tucked under a bench somewhere they would like to part with ?
I can get some made, its just the cost involved, so any help locating a pair would be gratefully received !
