It amazes me that my experience with different dealers that carry Guzzi are walkng away from thousands of dollars in sales because of a lack of training of their staff. I am lucky that there is a dealer in my town but that does not mean they can solve my problems or locate accessories in a timely manner. Moto Guzzi does not help in trying to assist their dealers either but here is one story. I wanted a tail pack that is on the moto guzzi web site for the Griso. The local dealer can not even find it on the company web site. I call the next dealer that is about two hours away and they tell me that the tail bag is not being shipped here any more because of the Euro. The supplier isn't making the bag. I call the next dealer about five hours away. I tell him the story of the two previous dealer. Within minutes , he said the tail bag is in country and can be here in three days. He will ship it and let me know it is here. He called me to tell me he has it (three days later) and is sending it UPS today. Crazy. What would happen if Moto Guzzi assisted their dealers with training in assisting their customers to spend money? Oh My!

I come from the BMW world so I am used to doing my own service, locating parts and living in the aftermarket world for accessories. Moto Guzzi is really no different, a few good dealers let down by their peers and and the mother ship. I knew that going in and look on the warranty and support from the local vendor as next to zero. I located MPH and MG Cycles for knowledgeable support. So far I haven't been disappointed.

Touch wood, i have had no problems as yet. My dealer inT.O. CA has tracked down and brought in any accessory i've ask for so far. Bug screen, small tank bag, jacket, even a new cylinder head under warranty was changed in a reasonable time. I have heard and read horror stories on this forum of dealing with not so much the dealer but MG and their support (and thats not just here in the US). As you say the right hand has no real knowledge of the left, which is the most frustrating...I count myself lucky for having one of the "good ones" with in 30mins of me.

My local Guzzi 'dealer' didn't stock exhaust gaskets, sump gaskets or even an oil drain washer(for what type and year bike is that sir?). An their advice: if you haven't heard from us in 3 weeks, you might be better off looking for something automotive that fits.....
Needless to say I use a lot of cross-reference lists and for special parts I call Moto International over the border. Great joint.

I've been a Guzzi service agent for a few years now.

In that time I have been invited to ZERO training courses.

While I am reasonably competent and switched on many 'Tehnicians' aren't.

Follow the bloody dots.........

Pete

Let's face it, why on earth would they organise training courses if all one has to do is launch a question into the community and some "guru" will answer? ;)

(to be honest, I have a hunch people like Pete, Greg, Todd and a couple of others could actually train Piaggio/Guzzi personnel...)

I don't know if the mechanics (4 fulltime) at Teo Lamers get training from the factory or so, but I must say that they really know about Guzzi's. Old and new models. They sell only one brand (the best ;)) and have a lot of parts in stock. There are a lot more dealerships since last year in Holland, but most of them are specialised in the common Japanese bikes. Most of them know shit about a Guzzi and do no good to the brand and the image. Even when I compare the website of the Dutch official importer to the one of TLM, I must say that the one from TLM is much more up to date. One should expect that the importer is the first to know news about Guzzi and to show it one their site at least. They even use the wrong or old pictures for several models on their site. IMO this shows a lack of interest for the brand. When people want to buy something new today, the first thing lots of them do, is to look on the internet. So I think it's important to have a good and updated website because you have only one chance on a first impression.
The importer even managed it to stop the import of the California last year! Now it's back in their program after complaints of several good and commited dealerships we have her in Holland.

And arrived last week at TLM the new Griso 8V SE and the new 1200 Sport 4V ABS.

I din't know that it's training that is the problem, i think it's more like BAD/POOR CUTOMER SERVICE. I am experiencing this a lot lately (not bike related) and it is pissing me off so much that i am writing a letter to my local paper to have a winge.

The thought came to me that Luigi got inspired by some bloke from down under and just could't get the right green paint..:p

But she sure is a BEAUTY !B)
