Headlamp disconnected alarm "CAN HLU"If a lack of connection between the instrument panel and the headlight is detected,the display will show the alarm message "ALARM CAN HLU" accompanied by the general warning icon the Pop-up area which will turn red.NOTE THE FRONT TURN INDICATORS ALSO FLASH WHILE THE ERROR "ALARM CAN HLU" IS ACTIVE ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY.WARNING DRIVE CAREFULLY AND CONTACT AN Official Moto Guzzi Dealer AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

thank you. I read it in the service manual today. This was the second problem after the CAT bolt problem. let's see what will happen
 
This morning I ran the bike to take it to the service. headlight worked again 🙄 service did not find a problem.

98% of all dash errors on Italian motorcycles can usually be linked to poor battery condition and/or ground strap connection.

If you do not maintain your battery on a battery tender, start doing this.

If you haven’t checked the bolt connecting the negative battery lead to the back of the engine block, (the ground strap) double check this. Mine was so loose I could spin it with just my fingers.

This caused errors on my dashboard until I reconnected it properly.

Scott, you are wise indeed! A friend of mine was on a trip on his V100S, and got stranded out of state. Bike quit. Got it to a dealer. They tracked it down to that ground wire - completely disconnected. No issues since. So, it must be a good thing for us check!

And, the battery - definitely, keep charged. I had ridden in Nov, but, didn’t ride in Dec, but did start the bike… but, left the key in the ignition, and last month on a nice day, it was dead. It did crank right over using a portable battery pack. But, I suspect the key in the ignition probably adds even more drain with the chip, etc. Lesson learned, if not riding for a few weeks! Tender, yes👍.

It is located above the clutch slave cylinder, at the 11 o’clock position. (5)

You can see the threads in yellow where the ground strap has been removed. (Ignore the black arrow and tool as this is something different.)
