Just got it firing!
Hello everyone. I’ve got a couple hundred miles, at this point, on my new to me 2009 Stelvio, and I’m really liking it. But something has been nagging me. After riding home from the dealership after taking possession of the bike, I noticed some oil splashed on the left side of the engine. It seemed to be higher up on the cylinder so I thought, valve cover gasket. So I removed the valve cover, cleaned everything up, and reinstalled it, and went for a short 20 mile ride. It was still leaking but it wasn’t the valve cover. The oil was coming out of the small hole on the side of the cylinder below the spark plug tunnel. See picture. Okay, so now I’m thinking o-rings on the spark plug pipe. So I removed the valve cover again and tried to remove the spark plug pipe from the cylinder but it would not easily move. It seems to be stuck in there. So not knowing, and not wanting to screw anything up on my new bike, I put everything back together, and planned to go back to the dealership. Well, believe it or not, the oil leak stopped. I guess by me tugging on the spark plug pipe it must have moved just enough to seal it back up. My question is, can the bottom o-ring for the spark plug pipe on a 1200 8 valve engine be replaced without removing the cylinder? I know I can do the top one but I’m unsure about the bottom one. Sorry for being long winded here and thanks for any advice offered.
