Lower fork leg cover

How do you remove the lower fork leg cover?
As in the cosmetic covers (#27) below? They are friction fit. Remove the forks, and both upper and lower slide off. If you mean the fork sliders that the tubes fit into, see above (and service manual).

Awesome, thanks for the tip. I noticed two nuts inside the cover wasn't sure how to proceed obviously the bracket that creates the friction. 20200308 192639

Welcome, well thanks for the pic. I've not yet personally had them off. Looks like those nuts likely might hold it on. The top is friction fit... those I have had off dozens of times (not by choice when doing the fork rebuild/upgrades).
 
As side note for those who may not know my left hand front fork seal developed a leak. So instead disassembling the fork and replacing the seal I used the seal doctor which removes any dirt caught under the lip. Of course next job is replace fluid and seal which is due for service. This is quick fix to keep me on the black stuff. Tips from my old dirt bike days.:D

I think you may be right! I did briefly attempt to remove with a rubber mallet but it wouldn't budge. In the end I didn't need to remove it.

In looking a little closer, #30 is a bolt from the top down... should you ever need to remove the lower.
 
I concur...the lower protectors are held in place by long skinny bolts. The head is accessed only by exposing them by removing the top protectors. I don't know of reliable short-cut...

I have an Audace that I purposely installed the protectors onto and this was my installation knowledge (just reversed) :)
 
Amazing, washing the bike and noticed one lower fork shroud was loose. Looked here for possible info on its mounting design and boom there it is before I even tried a search. Unfortunately my lift is tied up under another bike. Oh well at least I know where to look.

One of the first things I did to the Cali 1400 I purchased from you, Todd. I much prefer the bare stanchion style. Luckily, the stanchions were chromed all the way to the top, unlike a Triumph I once had years ago.
 
Hi Craig, maybe a silly question do you have to remove the top triple tree to remove the upper cover? Hoping can access bolts on the underside of the triple tree to slide rhe cover out.
