New tires

Oh, boy, a tire thread. I love winter. Not. :swear:

Well, it does bring out posts that none of of us has time for in riding season. Which reminds me: a pox on any of you living in southern California and other year-round riding venues. :*

But, yes, I saw that write-up recently. Intriguing.

I think I have said here before that I am not a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge kind of guy -- though if Studebaker still made pickups, I'd have one; yes, I digress; it's winter, remember :giggle: -- and have no brand preferences in motorcycle tires.

Well, not until this past set of MPR4GT's on my Norge.

I have shod it in its 75K miles with virtually all brands. Found most of those -- with exception of OEM-provided (Metzler somethings) to be quite fine from a performance perspective. At least in first 2/3's or so of tread life.

But WITHOUT EXCEPTION every rear corded at or just past 4K miles. Fronts were better, but not much. I always swap 'em out at same time even if some miles left.

I rarely ride the slab, but do wear tires well on the sides ... though never as far over as I delude myself into thinking I am riding. ;)

Yes, I am not a svelte slip of a thing, and, yes, it is possible that I flog the Norge when I can, and, yes, I usually ride it fully loaded with stuff. If Kathi -- who is a slip of a thing :h:-- comes, there is more stuff. Lots. We are likely near GVWR. So, 4K and a few were the rule. I thought that was just the way things just had to be.

So. last year, I put on the MPR4GT's front and back. Just got back from that trip to Atlanta I wrote about here: https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/norging-to-georgia.17935/

Hmmmmm. Tires look as if I need to R&R soon. Not to center wear bars yet, but if I get in another nice ride with Kathi before the Long. Cold. Dark. sets in with a vengeance next month, I may as well get the sweet beast ready for spring with new dancing shoes.

Wonder how many miles are on those tires?

What!?!?

Can't be!

8214!

Truly amazing. Tire technology for cages, but especially motorcycles, seems to have advanced exponentially in past decade or so. Astonishing.
