My '07 Norge has about 18K miles. I'm the third owner but basically the bike is stock. Last fall I installed an O2 Emulator to cure a very slight case of popping on decel. Last weekend I took my first really long ride and, over 4 tanks of gas, saw that I was only getting about 30 mpg. After about 675 miles I disconnected the Emulator and re-connected the O2 Sensor. Within 10 miles I had the check engine light come on. I pulled the sensor and it was coated with thick black carbon so I'm sure it was fouled from running so rich. Replacing the sensor solved the problem of check engine light. Now I'd like to fix the fouled sensor, if possible. What's the best way to clean this puppy up without making things worse? It's too darn expensive to just throw away. Oh, and now I have no popping on decel!

Peter, what emulator are you using, do you know?

If you can't revive the sensor, I have a few. Ping me direct.

What made you go for a O2 emulator to solve the popping?
If you search this forum the problem has been done to death, with Todd's ECU reflash it seems being the only real solution.
I have reduced my bike's popping with a Stepper motor on/off valve and a Fatduc O2 fooler (which works with the Lambda sensor not without it) but it is still there to some extent especially in hot weather. I'm afraid the cheap and cheerful solutions only take you so far.

Todd and I talked about my problem. He thought that the emulator might have the wrong dip switch settings, something I confirmed when I opened up the unit. Todd supplied me with the correct dip settings. Yesterday I ran a 68 mile loop and the bike ran perfectly. It seems the problem is solved. Oh, and I measured 50 mpg for that loop (1.36 gal).
I did an extensive forum search last fall prior to buying the emulator. Although the reflash is probably the 100% solution I think I have gotten close enough for my purposes. Todd also pointed out that each bike is enough different that "one size does not fit all" when it comes to the emulator so any installation is likely to require a bit of fine tuning to get it right.

I'm pleased you got the problem sorted. Do I take it this is not Todd's O2 Optimizer and it does away with the Lambda sensor altogether?

Dave;
This was Todd's Optimizer but it came with the wrong dip settings from the manufacturer. Still have the O2 sensor in the system.

.... so from what I'm gathering, this optimizer will cure the low speed fuelling issues (running too lean between 3000 and 4000 rpm) but has no effect on greater than 20% throttle openings. This would answer my worries completely with the new Stelvio 2012 and would mean I wouldn't need a powercommander or a reflashed ECU?
.... or have I got it wrong?
Thanks
Mike

as the new US 2012 models have 2 O2 sensors you will need 2 O2 optimizers from Todd.
Or Todd has already finished a new version with one box for both O2 sensors.

I have European 2011 = US 2012 model and use 2 O2 optimzers from Todd, one for each O2 sensor.
I am just testing the optimal settings for me. Rich setting works perfect to ride but has a real heavy increase of fuel usage.
So I changed settings step by step and now start using it at the leanest possible setting with the beginning bike season.
will see how this works.
But, bikes are really different, so it may be possible to use different settings on different machines.

Mike, I no longer offer the 02-optimizer stand-alone, only with a PC-V. The dual-sensor optimizer will be adjustable from within the PC-V... it is not yet ready. Per my previous post elsewhere, the only solution for the new dual-sensor bikes currently is my GT-Rx ECU flash, and you can add a PC-V & AT if desired.
