oil filter wrench

Valerie,

To add to Mike's post, go ahead and get some valve cover gaskets when you order oil filters. Pete has posted valve adjustment procedures on one of the boards. https://www.guzzitech.com/index.php?op ... 4141#14211 Your specification is .006 inch (0.15mm) intake and .008 inch (0.2mm) exhaust. With the feeler gauge you just want to feel a slight drag, not too tight, not to loose. It may look different in the 750, but the procedure is the same as the others. You may need to purchase tools besides the feeler gauges, so have spare transportation available when you start.

Also just came across this link. http://motoguzzimaintenance.wetpaint.co ... Adjustment

I'm not a big fan of using a torque wrench for low torque settings (7.5Nm) it is too easy to put too much torque on them and strip the threads Just snug with a T handle Allen (use finger tips only) is good for the valve cover screws.

Happy wrenching.

Valerie,

I do all the servicing on my wife's 750 and my Stone, and am fairly well set up now with decent tools. We're in Lancefield, so if you're within cooee of here, feel free to drop over and I'll show you how to do the various jobs.

BTW, have you joined the Moto Guzzi Club of Vic yet? They have a servcing day once a year. http://www.motoguzziclubvic.asn.au/

Re:eek:il filter

:) Thank you very much Mike, for your quick reply.

I thought it fairly unlikely, but to try for an alternative. My Breva filter is a simple perforated cylinder, attached by a very long bolt, very easily replaced by me when I last changed engine oil. I will take your advice and buy a "stash" of filters for future use.
My Breva 750 has performed faultlessly since new, particularly pleased with it after it's 15,000 km Service.

My location in the hills Central Western Victoria affords some terrific riding. It's a pity there isn't a local service agent however. :(

I do intend to learn how to check my valve clearances, at least!

I consider this forum will be of great value to my further appreciation of the unique character of my Guzzi.

The new filter bought from my Guzzi dealers yesterday and the one on the bike both have 8 flutes. the internet site "tools-n-all" have all size's of wrench so not a problem if they change in the future.

I notice most of the filters on ebay are not OEM parts and do not have 8 flutes.

The stock UFI filter has changed from 8 to 14 flutes, so what is on your bike, & what your dealer had on his shelf was old stock. No problem, as far as I know no functional difference between new & old, & certainly they don't deteriorate sitting on a shelf in a box. Some day you'll need the 14 flute wrench for the new filter, but no loss as long as you are not surprised by it.

Bob it doesn't apply to the 750 motors, they are cartridge type , not spin on.

Hello John

Thank you so much for your advice and information. It has reassured me that my approach to maintenance, in particular use of torque wrench on low settings was correct and I will get the items you've mentioned for valves.

Great appreciation,
Valerie

Hello Mackers,

It will be great to visit you for service advice. I appreciate your offer.

I intend to join Moto Guzzi Club Victoria. I found the website last night.

Cheers,
Valerie

Uhhh, yeah, and Bronco Breva to who I was replying was referring to the big breva, plus as previously pointed out by another anyone posting in this section in regard to the 750 motors is posting in the wrong place, this is for the big blocks.
