oil pressure sender issue isolated?

I just learned on one of the French MG forums that MG apparently identified the issue causing our oil pressure senders to fail (info comes from a dealer who had an MG training last week).

It apparently all comes from the rubber plug covering the sender unit, not isolating enough and so causing transient short circuits. One can only wonder as to how that would cause issues at startup and not during normal operation, but fact apparently is that this particular part is going to be replaced (undoubtedly on a case-by-case-after-it-failed basis).

Can of the on-board dealers confirm this?

Is this the failure that causes the service light go off at startup?

My buddy's B11 has this problem...

Ironical how history repeats itself. Problematic oil pressure switches have been plagued by such an issue for well over 10 years now. On the older F.I. Guzzis, water would be the culprit. I'll be watching.

Zapa: yes, it's the sender that's responsible for many a fault registered at start-up.

A friend here had the issue on his Norge, got a new sender, which immediately showed the same behaviour (well, a few km outside the dealer's), he then got diagnosed with the broken oil-pump which was replaced under warranty ... which didn't solve the problem until his dashboard was replaced too.

Anyway, there are indeed indications that infiltration of water into the sender or its connector can also trigger the fault. This is consistent with the explanation that the fault's direct cause is a short-circuit.

NB: to suppress the error, rather than shutting off and on the bike until she starts, press the starter immediately after turning the key, not even waiting for the lights-show to start.

This is not (intended as) a thread hi-jack, but, apropos the follow-on in this case (pun unintended as well!), wonder how many Norge (and B11?) oil pumps have gone "mammaries up" ... besides his and mine?

I know the coroner :silly: working for the Belgium "Moto & Loisirs" journal who did a long-duration test-and-autopsy found a broken pump too, one that had been working like that for quite a while. I think the article mentioned 1 or 2 other known case(s). To my knowledge you're still the only one who's had his engine seized because of it.

I had this problem. Good thing is that the bike is still rideable. I replaced the sender about 3 months ago, and it's been fine since. The old sneder looked perfectly normal- no signs of corrosion.
