Just replaced mine after staring at them for 6+ months over winter (at 32,000km) - one pad seemed more worn than the other, but not much meat left on either.It's a floating caliper with pistons only on one side so you can push the caliper across against the disc and push the pistons back in, mine moved really easy.
Yes it really is pretty simple, no jacking or wheel removal, just pull out the safety clip, punch out the pin (towards the wheel as John says), clean with appropriate fluid, push in the caliper/pistons and pull out the old pads - then reassemble. 15 mins if you've done that kind of thing before. Easiest, quickest job on this bike (apart from reattaching the center clips on the air-box - NOT )
