I have two Guzzis - V65 and 1978 SP 1000.
The small one is pretty smooth at any engine speed, can even handle idle speed running in top gear without much vibrations.
The big block is another story - best runs above 3500rpm in top gear but have excessive vibrations in handlebars at 3000 and again above 4000 rpm. Vibrations are felt on handlebars and engine, but not on footsteps, which are aluminium not the stock rubber covered. The vibration is definetly from the engine.
Lately I do some highway cruising at 120 and above km/h and these vibrations make the ride unpleasant.
The bike is stock except I replaced the points with electronic ignition. The carbs are balanced.

I've had good luck using "the bar snake" and heavy bar end weights.
One of the bar ends is missing but as I said I can feel that vibration on the engine too. I prefer to cure the problem than to mask it.

Since you say the carbs are balanced and valve adjustment is correct, then the engine shouldn't be the source of that much vibration. An item that can cause vibration is the Cardan joint and the carrier bearing it rides in. If neither has been replaced they could be worn after 44 years.

You said you installed electronic ign. Timed w/timing light on both L & R cyl?

Have you torqued the frame bolts lately? Just idea's on vibration.

The vibrations are definetly from the engine. As I ride at speed when vibrations occur, I pull the clutch lever, engine speed drops and vibrations disappears. With clutch still disengaged I rise rpms to 3000 and vibrations are felt once again. So they came from the engine for sure.
Timing is adjusted and checked at 2 and 33 degrees marks. Idle timing is playing because of play in gears to distributor shaft but this is normal and does not affect timing at higher engine speeds.
Didn't check engine bolts, will do.

You mentioned recent ignition component replacement , but I'm curious if this was because of the engine
vibration or did vibes occur afterwards ? How long have you owned it , and has it always vibrated ? Peter

Thank you for your replies.
I've changed points for electronic ignition after problems with points. I have similar bad expierence with my small block Guzzi and get rid of ignition problems when switched to electronic ignition.
I have this bike for a while, did not ride it much.
The compression is good on both cylinders - 10.5 bar. Engine bolts are tight.
I think I found the culprit of the vibrations. I syncronise throttles at one engine speed(3000 rpm) but when I change it to 5000rpm they are out of balance. I think this is because of the bad throttle cables.
Another bad point of Dellortos - they suck air through cables entering the carbs.
So I will buy new cables and boots and will try to sync again.

Compression seems a bit low, but it may be your gauge. I usually see 170 ish PSI (11.7) bar on healthy engines. Main thing compression is equal and that is a good thing. Hopefully new cables with new boots at the carbs will help you on curing the vibration.
