Tesla Autopilot Crashes into and kills two Motorcycle Riders

That's troubling to say the least. If you can't drive properly, take a bus ,train, Uber or taxi. Autonomous cars are a bad idea according to me. Granny aids are fine but fully automated, no. You need multiple redundancy to be close to safe.

The outcome of the investigations should be enough to remove that “Menace” from the roads.

Some of you might’ve heard about the reports and videos of Tesla drivers “napping” in their cars ( I was goin to say - behind the wheel - but it’s beyond that !)

We have a number of Driving aids on our new Bronco, but I’m still Responsible for ensuring the vehicle is under control !
You cant « Really » trust it 100% and it nags you to keep your hands on the steering wheel !

There was also a case in the Phoenix area a year or two ago where a Tesla rear ended and killed a motorcyclist that was waiting at a red light. “Autopilot” and/or “automatic emergency braking” failed to take action and neither did the inattentive driver.

Precisely how many times is this same tragedy going to play out before the NHTSA steps in and forces Tesla to block this feature of the car?

It is not ready for “Prime Time”.

This is outrageous.
Hell they can't even build their cars right. I've sat in my sister's model 3 and the thing reeks of 99 cent store plastic.
I truly believe that drivers should be educated in attentiveness, and if electronics are to be a part of automotive and motorcycle vehicles, they should only be there to increase our attentiveness, and not subdue it.

Multiple people have died because of this unproven aspect of the car.

For the life of me, the NHTSA can order the immediate deactivation of this feature in every Tesla and they should have done this long ago after the first couple people died.

28 have died because of this with 15 of those directly confirmed the autopilot was at fault.

Why aren’t they stopping this murdering aspect of the stupid Tesla car?

I think it is yet another example of 2 forms of law and justice in this country. One for the rich, in this case, the richest SOB in the world, and the rest of the regular non-rich people.

Enough is enough.

This is beyond understanding in my mind.

So, we are now to move side to side every time we see headlights in our mirrors to try to convince a driverless car that we exist. I can see a time when we as motorcyclists just say "enough" and a campaign of random attacks on the front ends of Tesla's begin, until authorities, fed up with mounting insurance claims, decide to legislate changes for Tesla

The government and NHTSA probably won’t make Elon and Tesla disable the auto pilot feature. My guess is they’re letting Elon be the bad guy while he perfects the technology. Really there’s no reason to have this!
Sadly , I believe it will just “keep making mistakes” as it learns, it will never be prepared for every eventuality…

What about the day when two cars need to decide on which evasive manœuvre to choose and both plunge off a cliff to avoid a collision !

I didn't realise that when Tesla stopped fitting radar to their cars they also disabled the radars on ever Tesla out there! They just rely on a camera based system now.

yes, I didn’t realized they had done that either, I guess it was too much trouble to arbitrate between the two devices when deciding what to do, so rather that work towards a solution they just deleted the problem !

It's really troubling to hear about accidents like that. Safety should always be a top priority, especially with advanced technology. On a different note, I've always admired the design of the Tesla Model 3 steering wheel. It has a futuristic look that's quite appealing. The sleek lines and minimalist design add a touch of elegance to the car's interior. What happened with the Autopilot system is a reminder that while technology can enhance our driving experience, it's not foolproof. We still need to stay vigilant and attentive while on the road.

GM now offers trucks with Ultra Cruise - "hands free" driving; the video shows the driver playing patty-cake or something .
Really...?! Bad enough to have cars with auto pilot but now we have work vehicles loaded with tools, maybe towing a trailer with a driver who's tired from working all day - AND HE DOESNT HAVE TO KEEP HIS HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL.
