Our friend Andrea's '10 NTX (of http://www.Stelvio2Stelvio.it) was here in my garage for a few months, and I can assure you that his bike has been abused likely more then any other Stelvio will ever see. His rear CARC guard was intact and likely saved the rear drive from catastrophic hits. It's the reason I run one based on the cost of replacement... not saying that what Pete suggested couldn't happen, just that I think you'd have many other issues to worry about if the caliper tabs snapped off.
