V7-850 Mods Thread

My original tank strap was starting to look slightly strange as the filler surround had ovalled. I think because the 5mm thick leather I used was stretchy. I've made a mark 2 version, this time I laminated two 2mm pieces cut from same hide but at 90 degrees to each other, so hopefully the fibres will resist the stretching. Mark 2 is completely stitched as well. The stitching will also resist stretching.

Shout out to Todd/GTM for importing the right Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs for my new V7 850. Great price and stupid fast. My bike’s officially on its way to becoming a scrambler. More mods ahead…

Blanking plates received during the week and fitted 21st. They fit perfectly.
Hardest part of job, and this might be different per bike, was creating more space for my hex key. I used a long flat bladed screwdriver to rotate the securing clip at the cylinder end of the short cylinder hoses so I could get a pair of needle nose pliers on them to move them off the spigot then push the hoses off. Once they are out of the way it's easy to remove the plates and fit Todd's blanking plates.

I ended up leaving the valve on it's bracket and blanking the 3 spigots with heat shrink to keep things tidy.

First time I had the tank off. Cudos to Moto Guzzi for the long electrical connection lead and easy release fuel hose.

they look good, especially the shiney ones hopefully 304 stainless + likey the BLACK V-7 III special with wire wheels VERY much even more than the blue that was a previous fav! getting to the end post + learning a lot, no Guzzi yet but very interested as summer is coming + thanks to all!

So thanks to @lemans850i - on Monday I learned that the cats are in the headers on the E5 V7 models. I’ll post pics tomorrow. Upside is our GTM headers and H will be available soon. They’ll fit all mufflers, stock to any aftermarket versions.

I run those tires on my FTR. While the original Dunlops look the part of a flat tracker the Scorpions are superior in every way.

Pic below of cat location in the headers. Front of bike facing right.

And thanks again to @lemans850i - we finally know that the new 850 motor is a NO GO on any big bore options. Shown below is their cylinder wall measurement, which is even thinner than the ones we do.

If you want better connecting rods
you could probably order V85 parts.. ... you are looking at quite a surgery for changing them...

Well, Todd is still working on more power... and now he has a bike to work with... I have 💯% confidence in him!
He’s going to wear his dyno out.. LOL 😝
Are there mechanical differences between the V85TT and V7 850 engines? I thought it was just different tuning and therefore any performance gains for the V7 850 are limited to a different flash, exhaust, airbox/filter, and a few other tweaks.

... not the same! Still trying to get smarter on it .... different crank and connecting rods, (3piece pressed with one part conn rod vs V85 forged crank and conn rod with removable big end half, head/valves? larger and electronically controlled throttle body (fly by wire)

I've made a few minor mods to my V7 850. Added a small fairing and installed LSL speed bars. I found the standard bars a little too high for me. Great in urban commuting but not so good on freeways and zipping through the mountains. I struggled to find the best clutch cable routing. At first I routed it via just behind the headlight but didn't like the bend in the cable. In the end I cut off about 60mm from that standard cable including the bend at the handlebar lever end. The cable now goes straight from the lever and follows the standard routing. The hardest part was soldering on a new nipple for the barrel. The bars are higher than the Racer but lower than standard.
