Coming back to this site after more than 9 years, I had then 2012 Stelvio 1200 NTX. Sold the Stelvio after one season and one of main reasons was the excessive engine noise, especially the whining transmission. I did not mind the valves train “music” but the rest was rather overwhelming and did not measure up to my previous 1200GS. Traded the Stelvio for another BMW a 2010 1200RT. Few bikes later, I am now looking for a retro style classic and narowed it down to either V7 Special or Bonneville. At my ripe age of 76, I probably will not have many more opportunities to change the bikes, so I want to get it right this time. Disadvantage for me is that I live ~450 km from nearest MG dealer and some 180 km from nearest Triumph dealer, but I have always serviced all my bikes myself.
Can anyone comment on the general noisiness of V7 vs Stelvio or Bonneville? I would really prefer a bike with shaft drive, so I am leaning towards the Guzzi.
