Griso - Blowing main 30amp Fuse

It has red and green/red so right hand side physically (on my bike at least) looking to the front and left hand on the circuit diagram. Apologise for the confusion as I had not seen the circuit diagram when I first described it physically but is the same one all along. It is the the one between the battery and alternator.

It is now just under 10,000km and has consistently been between 13.8v to 14.1v when riding since I got it with 8km on the clock but is now ~1v lower since the whole connection/reconnection exercise. What action would cause a ~1v drop or alternatively, what would cause a ~1v higher reading from new if the lower range is normal? Bad battery earth from the start?

Have not ridden it far from home since I picked it up but if the lower voltage reading is more normal, will start riding it to work again :cool:
 
If there is a problem with the battery or a bad connection, the dashboard voltage could possibly be reading higher than the actual battery voltage. This is because there will be a voltage drop across the bad connection which is effectively in series with the battery, allowing the alternator voltage to rise, and this rise is reflected in the voltage reading at the dashboard.

Using a quality digital voltmeter, you could try reading the voltage directly across the battery, and at both sides of the fuse that is continuously blowing (with the motor running). Just touching the connections on the back of the fuse itself with the probe should achieve this. There should be only a minute (millivolts) difference in your readings. Any difference between what the digital voltmeter and the dashboard voltmeter when reading the voltage at the fuse can be assumed to be calibration tolerances.

I'm still thinking an intermittent battery problem, or bad connections at the fuse or the battery itself has been your problem. When you are doing the voltage readings around the fuse, try shaking the cable harness around it to see if the reading changes.
 
Appreciate it Dave, Will be riding to work again this week and will see what eventuates. Will pick up a voltmeter and do the testing you suggest.
