Quill T3 Exhaust Can

Me and Supermoto took our cans to be de cat'd the other day and mine is back on and it is better, just not by a million miles. Biggest saver is the can doesn't get as hot now which is a blessing and there is no gurgling on the over run, just nice and smooth. Supermoto has the contact for the guy who reworks and makes exhausts if anyone is interested.

is it sabre custom engineering in manchester by any chance? I've just found them on ebay.

Im interested to understand why the Mistral appears to be so much more expensive. What benefits does it offer over the Quill?

I think it's made in italy and has a red oval badge similar to Guzzi :?: maybe they feel as it's nearer to mandello they can charge more :D

I managed to get the fellas number but he's now called Andy

Cheers Ian

I've just found this site whilst doing a google search for Sabre.. (I'm a friend of Steve and have been asked to set up a website for him - was doing some research)

I can confirm that Steve and Andy are both Sabre Custom Engineering... I won't go any further than saying that so as not to tread on toes.

Happy riding B)

Just got my silencer back from Sabre and I must say it seems to a real tidy job, they even cleaned the tar spots off the aluminium cover. I can't wait to try it tomorrow, hopefully the feedback will be good :D :D

Ian

Having the silencer 'de-cated' was the best £60 I have ever spent on a bike.Having owned the 1200 Sport 2 valve previously I wasn't impressed with the Stelvios flat mid-range but now its back in abundance and the bike is totally transformed.

The exhaust note is deeper but I wouldn't say much louder which is good news because the Stelvio is loud enough.

The quality of workmanship, 4 day turn-around and allround friendliness of Sabre Custom Engineering near Manchester was second to none. I can not recommend them highly enough.

They carefully cut open the side of the exhaust behind the chrome cover, remove the cat and weld it back up and the finish is excellent, you wouldn't know it's been apart.

My next move is to fit the K&N filter and open up the top of the air filter box. The one thing I've learned over my years of Guzzi ownership is that the beggars need to breath and I hope that the airbox mod will be a big improvement. Just to be on the safe side I've already ordered a new airbox lid, they're only about £6 from Speedaway and that'll go on when the bike's next serviced just to preserve the warranty.

Cheers

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum (hello ;)) and I've just fitted a Quill T3 in stainless steel to my NTX. Very easy to fit once you have wrestled the stock can off, nice sound and a noticeable 'smoothing' of the engine. It's much more responsive low down too, which is nice. The standard silencer nearly did my back in it was sooo heavy ! I had a pair of T3 carbon ovals on my previous bike (V-Strom) and went back to Quill as I know they work. I look forward to making some more posts.

Hi Bisonheed, welcome to the forum. I fitted a Quill can to my Stelvio, I'm very pleased with it, the standard one is such an ugly and heavy lump.

Beauty is in the eye, as they say. I have a spare Quill can that I could have fitted but actually like the standard can, though it is a tad heavy, weighs in around 14ibs after the CAT's gone.

Fatal did you get your Stelvio from Millenium, if so what's their servicing like?. I normally do my own but with the bike stil under warranty I may need one more service.

Cheers Ian (Wigan)

Thanks for the welcome ! I'm interested in servicing too as my local dealer (M & S Newcastle) 'lost' several franchises this year. I ended up getting my NTX from Orrell Motorcycles as they were the only dealer interested in actually selling me a bike !!!

I bought my Stelvio at millenium motorcycles as they offered me the best deal and they are only about 5 or 6 miles from my home. Orrell motorcycle centre is about the same distance away but at the time of purchase a good friend of mine was working at millenium and I knew he would look after me.
I had the first two services done at millenium, the mechanics seem OK, but I think perhaps Moto Guzzi specific knowledge is not as good as some Guzzi specialists. Both Millenium and Orrell are large multi franchise concerns, and owned I believe by Moto GB which I have heard is owned by the guy that owns KJM superbikes (Keith Mason) and a couple of other dealerships in northwest england. They don't appear to hold much stock as far as spares and service items are concerned.
There was a bit of a cock up when they had to do my cam recall, but it was eventually sorted out, a breakdown in communications between Millenium and Piaggio so I'm told.
My bike will be two years old next May, I will then do all the service work myself, it's pretty similar to my old BMW GS1150, so I don't anticipate too many problems. If the bike ever starts to run rough and I'm unable to sort it, I'll take it to the dealer for them to plug it in to the diagnostic computer.
Ideally I would love to have a Guzzi specialist nearby, but they all seem to be down south, although I have heard good reports about Moto Strada in Yorkshire.

Hya Fatal

I bought my 1200 Sport from Orrell Motorcycles and had it serviced at Motostrada. To be honest I wasn't impressed with Motostrada so serviced it myself aferwards, if I bump into you I'll tell you why. I live in Winstanley so know all the dealers that you mention. Keith Mason does own most of the dealerships around Wigan & Chorley, not sure if thats a good thing. I was put off at Millenium when they told me it would take a fortnight to get me an oil filter. Oddly enough my bikes two years old next May so I'll start doing my own service from then onwards.

Ride safe and if you see a fat lad on a white one it'll be me.

Cheers
Ian

Ian, I'm just over Billinge lump from you, I'm in Rainford, if you see a fat bloke on a black Stelvio it's likely me (although the missus has put me on a strict diet....sort of :D )

I've just had the bike out with the CAT removed, K&N fitted, snorkel removed and airbox modified and what a transformation. No more weak mid-range, a definate power band kicking in and almost no low speed snatch. The wife was absolutely amazed how well the bike now accelerates.

My airbox mod was to take the lid off turn it over and drill 15mm holes between all the small webs, about 20 in total.I went that way to afford some protection to the filter. A replacement lid is about £7 so I've ordered one just in case there's any warranty work.

Cheers Ian (one happy Stelvio owner) :D :D :D

sounds good Ian. I'd be tempted to put it on a dyno to check the fuelling is ok, and have a look at the bhp and torque figures. The nearest I know of is at Quill in Golborne, just off the A580.
