Outlaw Ride '09 4/27-4/29

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Quote of the year? Hard to beat Ohnstad's Dad last year, gentleman well up in his, what, 70's or 80's on an FZ something or other, "I'm not used to being the laggard of the group at 90 mph...."

By the way, I never did get to see the film Todd made from last year's ride. Did it go up in smoke with the prior board, or is there a link to it somewhere?

I almost forgot about that one Bob, thanks, that was too funny.
The video was on the old server, and will reappear once we get the merger complete (hopefully on or before the first of the new year).

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

the actual quote Jon O dad said had to be witnessed first hand as he tugged on the waistband of his riding pants and kicked the dirt and shaking his head side to side...he said "never thought I'd see the day, 90 mph would make me the dodler(sp?) of the group" he was riding a Yamaha FZ-1. Not sure but I'd put his dad in his 60's and BP officers quote to Jamileh also on a FZ-1..."if you catch up to your friends YOU WILL BE ARRESTED!!" what I found odd was the two best quotes on the GUZZI RIDE came from people riding Yamaha FZ-1's :p :woohoo:...that ride was so much fun!!

Rugar,

Other than taking the I-8 I don't see many options. I live near the 62 and love using it but it takes us a little out of the way. Suggestions?
If you have time, drop down on the 85 from the 8 at Gila Bend and across the Goldwater target range (don't worry, they don't use moving motorcycles for target practice too often:woohoo: ) and then east on 86 out of Why to 286. South on 286 about 22 miles to Arivica road and west through Arivica to I-19. South on I-19 to 82 on the north end of Nogales and then through Patagonia on 82 to Tombstone. If you have extra time to kill take a 30 minute detour on 86 to Indian Road 34 (almost guarantee you will see wild horses that want to race you) to Indian Road 15 and south back to 86. You miss the boring part of 86 this way. Also, just west of Sells take a 15 minute run up to Kitt Peak. Ice will be off the road by April. All of this will add a couple hours to your ride but you miss the Tucson road contruction so it may be a wash.

If it is time to eat when you get to Amado, stop at the Longhorn and have an Amado burger. Not to be missed.:side: Now I'm hungry :(

Sounds great! But that's about a twelve and a half hour day for me. A little longish. Will have to give that some thought though.

Time for me to get that Zumo

I have a Zumo 550. Hate MapSource, really like the Zumo. Will spend money in January to get better software for mappng on the Zumo.

For me, this route is a 4 day riding trip. But probably cannot take the week off then to do the ride with the group. How would this route be in January/February time frame?

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Jan-Feb?

Very cold.

I've got to edit this. Today is Jan 18th and it was 80 degrees. I screwed this forcast up so bad I could probably be a TV Weatherman:)

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Just spoke to a friend and his wife from Little Rock(CA) and they're considering doing the Outlaw Ride. Get this....they got married a few months ago and the ride will be a honeymoon ride (kind of like Tyler and I last year:laugh: ). They'll be on a Yammy. Guzzi's and Yamaha's:huh: what's up with that? They're really good peeps, hope they make it . If they do I'd bet they'll be on a new Guzzi next yearB)

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

P.S.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

When is this going to be? From last year's descriptions and the talk here, it sounds like it would be fun, if I can get away.

Target will be the last week of April.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Hey Larry -
Did you happen to get my PM re this subject?

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Larry, how's the planning on this thing coming? What I'm looking for is, start at such & such a point on such & such a date, same for ending. Want to know for planning purposes, if you have gotten that far yet.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Hey Bob -
That's kinda what i was asking Larry in my PM, but he never responded. I must have offended him somehow - I guess I forgot how sensitive the guy is......my bad. I have a work commitment 4/22 - 4/24, but i told Larry to not plan around that certainly - was just letting him know - just wondered if he had gotten any firmer on dates.... let me know if he writes back to you.....

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Outlaws, I have a plan and I think even Bob Outlaw will goB) Tomorrow I'll do the Mapquest stuff and fine tune. When done I'll post. Dates are April 26 forward. Jamileh Outlaw, you know the schedule has to include you:huh: You already know the drill. Hell...you've even been practicing:laugh:

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Practice makes perfect!!!
My work commitment is actually a seminar in LA, which could work out perfectly? Ride the moto down to the seminar and leave from there with Safety Bob...

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Seminar ends when? Where in LA?

Edit-J, never mind, I looked back, saw your seminar ends 4/24. Ride starts 4/26, presumably from near Tucson early in the day, approx 500 miles from LA. As you know from last year, I would PREFER not to have to do the whole 500 in 1 day, so as not to start the ride tired. So, would prefer to get part way there the aft/eve of 4/24 if possible. If not possible, we could do it all in 1 day.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

seminar ends Friday 4/24. can't remember where in LA - might be someplace exciting like Irvine - doesn't much matter though.... You have some thought brewing??

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Here's a critical question: any reason to get my dead speedo fixed BEFORE the ride?

That's what I thought....

Not to worry Bob. Plan is to tour Tucson the first day (Monday). Catalina Hwy and some local sight seeing so you can actually see the area and sample some great southwestern food then early to bed and early to rise to be in Tombstone for the saloon shoot around 7AM (Tuesday). It's about an hour and fifteen by direct route.

Jammie, you had a speedo on the Yamaha:p

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

J, see my edit to my earlier post, Larry's follow up. If 4/26 is dedicated to hanging around Tucson, then the whole thing is a non issue, since Monday will be easy-or we might prefer to not even get to Tucson until mid morning or the like. As for the speedo, if you are thinking you might not have it fixed by late April, seems like you've already answered your own question....
