Outlaw Ride '09 4/27-4/29

Plan is to tour Tucson the first day (Monday).

Wait a minute. I thought first day was 4/26-which is Sunday. Which is it? Also, for those who have to ask for vacation days (ie J, not me), when/where does this end? Or is that still in flux?

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Like last year Bob as I remember, Sunday was a travel day for you and others coming this way and you arrived late in the day on Sunday.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

OK, as I get it, that lays out as follows per my trusty AAA map of AZ:

4/25-26, Sa/Sun, 1 or 2 days as needeed, folks get to Tucson. As many miles as needed, about 500 from LA. Or, some might prefer to get there Monday, miss some or all of:

4/27-Mon, Tucson local sightseeing

4/28 Tues, Tucson-Tombstone-Bisbee, then 191 to Safford, approx 250 miles

4/29 Wed, Safford-Springerville, 191 all the way to I-40, then Holbrook, approx 300 miles, maybe a bit more depending on how we do the Petrified Forest thing. Or, could cut off about 50 miles by taking 180 from St Johns to Holbrook. I know the idea is to do 191 end to end, but for me unless there is some good reason to take 191 all the way to I-40, I wouldn't mind saving the 50 miles & staying off the Interstate. At this point, official Outlaw ride is over, those who choose (might well include me) continue on to Prescott Rally which I believe begins on Friday.

4/30 Thurs-Your route is Holbrook-Flagstaff-Sedona-Jerome-Prescott, approx 180 miles.

My alternate suggestion, since I prefer to avoid Interstates, & consider 89A through Sedona as beautiful, but now turned in to one big high traffic tourist trap:

From Holbrook-south on 77 to Show Low, then through the Salt River Canyon (which I remember as a fabulous ride) to Globe, north on 188 to Payson, 260 through Strawberry (featuring west of Strawberry some very, very high speed roads with big sweepers at altitude that I remember very fondly from the very earliest Prescott rallies when they were in Camp Verde) to Camp Verde, Jerome, 89A to Prescott. This would total roughly 315 miles, certainly longer than your route, but I think a whole lot more fun on 2 wheels, stilll easily doable in 1 day-or 2 if you feel like it, since no real need to get to Prescott before Friday. Just my 2 cents.

Total trip Tucson to Prescott, 730 mi or so your route, about 865 miles my last day alternate, less 50 either way using the St Johns cut off. Plus mileage from home to Tucson, then Prescott to home. For me, maybe another 1000 miles for that. Makes the whole trip not that much under 2000 miles for me. Better make sure plenty of tread left before I go, or make plans to pick up a tire along the way. Wonder how long the Roadsmart on my Norge rear will last?

Larry, whaddaya think about my alternate route to Prescott?

Outlaw Ride 2009 "Ride Where They Rode"

Tuesday 4-28
Meet in Tombstone at 7AM for the Saloon shots
Brunch in Bisbee and take time to check the town
North on 191 to Safford for dinner at El Charro
North to Cliffton for rooms at The Rode Inn
Wednesday 4-29
North 191 to Springerville for Lunch
60 west to Globe for coffee/rest
End of Outlaw Ride

This route is mostly scenic back road with great photo opportunities. I'll have maps with scheduling in Tombstone.

Those choosing to go to the Prescott Rally can do so. In the past many people have arrived to camp on Thursday, so it can all blend.

As far as to Tombstone and after Globe that is for the smaller groups to work out since riders are expected from several states. Also I would like to add for those interested, I'll host a Tucson ride up Mt.Lemmon http://www.motorcycleroads.com/routes/S ... AZ_7.shtml and some other local sites on Monday 4-27. Please PM me if interested.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Geez Larry, you pulled all your prior stuff, so my post looks like it came from nowhere, instead of being just a recap plus suggested modified ending that you were OK with. I sure hope you were getting some grief off forum from others besides me, cause I sure wasn't trying to push you in this direction.

Now we got:
Tues 4/28 Tucson (for those coming from Tucson, I guess inc you & me) to Clifton, about 300 miles.

Wed 4/29 Clifton-Globe maybe 240 miles

From Globe to Prescott, maybe some of it Wednesday, would be about 175 miles via 188/260 for those going there. Maybe you are going back to Tucson Wed night, then Tucson-Prescott Thursday?

Assuming Globe direct to Prescott, the whole thing Tucson to Prescott is now about 715 miles, vs 730 your original, 865 with my modified last day which is kind of a combo of your original & rework, although my modified 865 miles sort of assumed some might prefer to take an extra day, probably get to Prescott mid-morn Friday rather than late afternoon Thursday.

Me, I really preferred modified plan A, by a lot, with or without the 180 cut off from St Johns, & of course the Monday Tucson local thing would be optional anyway. People coming from wherever could easily join us, well, wherever, with exchange of cell phone numbers. Runs Outlaw ride seamlessly in to Prescott. Instead now its kind of a recap of last year, again with the photo stuff in the Tombstone tourist trap, this time at 7AM.

Well, after all, at the end of the day it's your ride......

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

After thinking about everybody's situations as far as work scheduling or distances to travel this is what I feel works best. It's not my ride. It's a ride hosted by the Southeast Arizona Guzzi Riders to show off some of the spectacular roads and legendary towns we have around us. This is "The Outlaw Ride". Believe this, many an Outlaw rode these trails before our grandparents were born. We will ride where they rode and someday others will follow our path. Darrel, Willy, Woody and myself are looking forward to and welcome all the riders who want to be an Outlaw.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

I'm confused. Easy for me...

Is the Outlaw ride a Wing Event to the Prescott Rally?
Thats ok with me. I enjoy riding more than sitting around a camp site.

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Don, that's where the wiggle room fits. Yes we can head to Monument Valley (my personal favorite) or whatever. I'm bringing extra stuff so I have flexibility. Some may have to be somewhere at a certain time so they can without missing the core ride (Tombstone-Globe). You and I like big miles where some get tired after a few hundred (Bob:woohoo: ) so we can change on the fly after Globe and still make Prescott.

Whoa there, buddy, I'm the one who keeps trying to add miles to the thing, but you keep subtracting them. If you want to go to Prescott on Wednesday, fine. Personally I'd prefer to spend the extra day or so on the road getting there.

It's still "your" ride in the group sense, & in the "not mine" sense....

It's all good, it'll work out....

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Hey Larry -
I managed to make it past this little snafu without incident last weekend..... I'm getting better......

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

Jam: you meant the lantern post in the mirror? I guess you must be getting better indeed (as in ... we don't see yourself in it)! :silly:

Lupo: I may be terribly mistaken, but what kind of question is that to ask a lady? :p

Hey!
Don't we have someone in our ranks who is under investigation in AZ for "too much bitching" while on state highways?
I think Rich got pulled over and was interrogated as to his affiliation with said Outlaw....

Re:Outlaw Ride '09 at Big Nose Kate's Saloon

...that was in New Mexico. Here in Arizona bitching is a capitol offense. The cop would have tortured Richard until he gave up Bob then shot Bob and left him in a ditch. You know, kinda like the LAPD:) This year the entire ride will be in Arizona so Bob will have to be careful.

Larry,

No kidding, my friend Larry in Camp Verde was tased just after last years rally by Arizona's finest. Larry and I lit off a few fireworks behind the casino where he has a home, and the casino security called the police. When they arrived, Larry surprised me by running off. I learned something new about my pal Larry, it seems that he has a thing about authority. After a failure to communicate, Larry got ZAPPED :eek:hmy: :eek:hmy: :eek:hmy: which caused Arizona's finest to loose interest in me. That worked rather nicely in my favor.
In my opinion, they were just a tad on the heavy handed side.

Larry's wife and I picked him up early AM and he told the fellow at the desk that they should ask for their money back as their taser didn't do much at all. Maybe it was all that fat.

Arizona's finest ain't all that fine.
